The LS1 F Bodies were around for 5 years. I doubt the 5th gen Camaro will be around that much longer.

I forgot to mention that it would prob be upper 40s in price. Slots between a ZL1 and a 1LE. Personally, spending an extra 6-7k for 20 HP and a Z28 badge is ridiculous.

Does it really make sense to keep producing the outgoing engines past the 2014 model year for the Camaro? What do you ladies and gents think might be in store?
I doubt it.

If the new Camaro is truly due in 2015 as a '16MY (still rumored, for what its worth)....and I was the Camaro team? There's no way in heck I'd spend the $$$ and time validating entirely new powertrains for just 1 or 2 MY of the car.

But...I'm not them.

If it reinvigorates the sales, I'm sure they'll take the hit in cash. Especially with the new stang.

Maybe...revalidation is literally millions of dollars....I'd be doubtful that they'd be able make that back since SSs only account for ~30-40% of sales.

And we can always hope the "radically different" Mustang is a dud.

A 5th Gen 1LE with an LT1 or LS7! The very reason I may not wait for the 6th Gen to buy another...

Do you have some inside information on pricing? Cost of the LS3 and LT1 that great. Why would it not be closer to the cost of the SS with 1LE pkg unless there are some other upgrades.

How much development time and $ is really needed for the engine? The actual engine has gone through its testing on the C7, and it isn't radically different from a LS3 or L99. Wouldn't the cost be similar to putting an LS7 in a Camaro?
As for the mustang... All I can do is

It's simple business. Chevy will not sell another Camaro close in function and price to a 1LE, unless if they removed the 1LE option all together. It's like making a ZL1 with an LS9 and selling it for $1000 more than the normal ZL1. No one would buy the normal ZL1. Same thing with a 1LE and a Z28. There will be a differentiating price gap between the 1LE and the Z28, unless if they can one of the models.

I think if the 1LE gets the LT1 there is no need for an LS7 Z28. The LT1 is supposed to be a torque monster.

My only beef with the LT1 will that it will be hard and expensive to mod at first. And GM might make this new engine harder to mod like Chrysler did with the Hemi.

I agree. But the original conversation was in context to a Z28 with a LT1.The LT1 would be a perfect fit in the 1LE.

Hey it is a perfect fit let's call it a Z28 and people will be lining up to buy it.

There's only one problem that I forgot to mention. The LT1 has Active... Fuel... Management
