SLP or Whipple supercharger - Need help! - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

So I've been on the fence for a few weeks now. I'm really interested in the SLP 92000A Supercharger kit and the complete kit from Whipple. Out of the box they seem to make similar power but the Whipple clearly has the edge for big HP potential. I have a Procharged 4th gen that makes big power and is more of a street/strip car already so the 5th gen doesn't need to go over board. I can't see myself pushing this thing past 700rwhp. The Whipple seems like the better blower but the SLP seems like it should do everything I need it to do, cost less and look pretty awesome. So should I just go for it knowing the SLP should be more then enough for my street car? Has anyone boosted an SLP blower up to or past 700rwhp? Is it any easier to get the Whipple to that mark then the SLP blower? My car is an LS3 M6 car if it matters.

Everyone is going to know I would suggest turbos because they will do 700+ no issues without any extras. But out of those two, whipple. You may need 8 rib, tension, cam, meth, smaller pulley but you can do 700rwhp with one. Just takes a bit of work.

The Eaton style roots blowers tend to make a bit more torque out of the box then the Whipples do. If 700rwhp is the high end for your goal, the SLP probably makes the most sense. If you ever start thinking of bigger numbers the Whipple is a must (they also make several bigger displacement blowers you can upgrade to). We have been selling a ton of both lately and haven't had one customer come back unhappy with their choice so it's a win win situation for you.

I want to keep this car supercharged and more of a street car. Again, 700 is more on the high end and I was thinking 550-600rwhp Turbos are great but I plan on turboing my 4th gen soon enough. I like the idea of a roots/twin screw style blower on this car.

I would definitely whipple 2.9L it for 700rwhp.

Either will hit your numbers. Run the one that's cheapest. Run the one that looks the best to you. Run the one that's easiest to install. If you're having the work done, run the one that your chosen shop is most comfortable with.

I say Whipple, because that is what I currently run, and have run in the past. I love it. As stated earlier, the SLP will definitely generate more torque right out of the box. Whipple has the upper hand for in the HP war, though. Both systems will require close to the same additional mods to reach the 700HP mark, so it really comes down to:

1) Are you sure 700HP is the upper limit, and
2) if 700HP is the limit, which one do YOU like?

Any supercharger looks cool under these hoods, and you can customize yours to make it even cooler. Best wishes.

A lot more Whipple love then I anticipated. What exactly is a maxed out 2.9L capable of HP wise? 800?

Slp is easier to install, cheaper, and makes good power. I'm making 600+ right now with no issues. It has more belt wrap and a much better tensioner setup than the jackshaft style. Whipple is obviously going to have a higher hp potential, but the slp will easily reach/exceed your goals

I have to say that low end torque is addictive...I had an Edlebrock e-force (eaton style blower) in my 2010 with 622rwhp and 0-130 happened pretty damn quick

What injectors come with the SLP system? Does it come with a boost a pump? I know the Whipple comes with an MSD boost a pump and 65lb injectors.

keeping dollars in the wallet is always a great feeling, both will do the #'s if SLP is a better bang for the buck?! rock it!, and shop the Magnuson version too, they are all very nice additions to our cars!
