trunk lid vibration
Got a serious vibration whenever I play anything with a little bass. I thought it was coming from the rear deck but isolated it to the trunk lid at the rear window...if I push on the trunk from outside all vibrations stop. Now does anyone know how to stop that damn rattle? Would dynamat or equal help? Some sort of shim? Any thoughts are appreciated.

I had this same problem after adding a ******** system to my 2SS. I tried dynamating the trunklid (under the carpet of course) and it helped a little, but there was still rattling from the trunk where it meets the window and applying the slightest amount of pressure in the center would stop the rattle. I installed a thin piece of self-stick weatherstripping I got at Home Depot and it worked - no more rattles!

weather stripping as a shim sounds like the way to go. Where did you place it on the lid?

I had the same issue...I dynamatted the trunk lid, and the whole trunk. Stopped the rattle totally.

Get some dynamat quick. There's nothing more funny than someone rolling down the street with their system banging and all you hear is their trunk going crazy. lmao.
My 1st car was a cavalier and I installed my entire system on my own when I was 17. My trunk was sounding R I D I C U L O U S. I bought a big sheet of dynamat from audio express and put in in the entire trunk my self. I removed all the cloth and padding, the spare wheel and just cleaning all the panels well with soapy water and dried it. I applied the dynamat with a roller and that was it. I only had a sony xplode amp (forgot how many watts) and 2 xplode 12s and put most anyones system to shame only because my trunk did not rattle. Makes a world of difference. Weather strip the trunk lips too. Also I found that the ratteling is reduced even more if I drop down 1/2 the backseat (so you can see into the trunk from inside the car) - this gives the bass/vibrations more air to flow through so it increases the number of panels that get vibrated, decreasing the magnitude of vibration. This means if your bass is limited to the trunk all the panels of your trunk will take the brunt of that bass/vibration. Open up the backseat and now the brunt of the vibration will be spread over the entire car rather than just the trunk and the rattleing will be less pronounced. Im not a sound engineer so dont quote me on this paragraph, it works but my explaination may be wrong. lol. PS dynamat the rear license plate too!

Also put dynamat on the interior panel where your back speakers are bolted in. Once the trunk gets dynamatted this will vibrate and it sounds like the back window wants to pop off. Basically you chase the the rattleing around the car with dynamat until it goes away.

Thanks for the pics and the info. for the weather stripping... I'm gonna make sure my trunk is lined and everything before I get the sub/amp installed next month!
