I just had my lifters changed last month. When I first reported it last year it was in for an oil change, they read the bulletin blah blah blah and when the lifters became available they replaced them. They kept the car overnight when first report and they heard the noise several times noted it and lifters have been changed. No tapping since.
My dealer has treated me great since the day I placed my order.

you'd be surprised who they employ! now the guys that assemble these engines in Michigan, that's a totally different story, but joe schmo who does 100 oil changes a day at the dealership... no thanks, he's not touching my car. murphy's law follows me around with my cars! i'd rather just avoid the chance all together if its not a reliability issue.

and its been said, its just a sound issue, and i don't have a problem with it, my exhaust is loud and ever since i installed my headers i can't hear the tick unless my ear is on the valve cover.

i'm not going to pay anyone to just change my lifters, i'll change them out with LS7 lifters if the time comes i want a beefy cam and delete DOD all together, not just disable it with my tune.

I'm just glad GM caught it and is willing to fix. Everything else seems to be so well made, it would suck to have the lifters fall apart as soon as they're no longer covered by warranty.

As far as dealer work is concerned, I'm pretty sure GM would do their best to employ qualified mechanics to do this kind of work. And this way, if something does go wrong, GM is accountable and my warranty is still good.

Let me know if you get any affordable quotes on this silly procedure from an outside (and qualified) mechanic....

How many miles on your engine?

The frequency and duration of my start-up ticking has gone down. I'm at 10,000 miles, and the ticking only happens maybe every 10th start and lasts a second or two.

My SS1/LS3 (8500 miles) currently in shop getting all lifters replaced. Dealer said let the car run for 5 minutes and see if it stops. I said no, replace the lifters, any noise like that is unacceptable. To date, I've had 2 rr shocks replaced due to oil leaking, 4 O-ring gaskets replaced due to oil leak, and now all lifters being replaced. Based on California Lemon Law, I'm very close to getting a new vehicle. My 93 Z28 has 130K, and never had any of these problems. Not a happy camper!

:( I thought the lifters were an L99 problem only. Sorry to hear of all your problems, and I hope they all get resolved.

The ticking/tapping is really noticeable in the video, and I only played about 5 seconds of it. The dealer should fix this.

I can't believe it wouldn't perform for the tech when we had it there...
