stupid question

I have a 2012 ss and I was wondering if it's ok to push the car in neutral without turning the car on. I remember awhile back someone said they did this and it messed with the wheel sensors....oh and it's stick

The only dumb question is the question that doesn't get asked.

Manual okay, can't with an automatic. No lube circulation in an automatic. You'll be fine.

That's interesting, I wouldn't have thought it mattered if it was an Automatic or Manual. I thought anything could be pushed once in Neutral.

I have an automatic and sometimes when I am shining my tires I do as much as I can while the car is parked, and because I don't want to start the engine just to move it a bit, I then put it in Neutral to push it forward a little bit so I can get the bottoms of the tires...then I push it back.

Am I actually hurting something by doing it that way?

No I highly doubt you are hurting it in any way, your not building any friction up just moving it a couple of feet.

No, pushing the car by hand is of no consequence, but you can't tow an automatic in neutral with the drive wheels on the ground. You would have to remove the driveshaft if you wanted to do that, or of course flatbed.

Since a manual transmission uses the rotating assembly to circulate lube to the bearings instead of a pump that is driven by engine rotation (like an automatic does), you get plenty of lube to the bearings even when the engine is off, while pushing or towing the vehicle.

Sorry, I should have elaborated.

Thank you.

(PS: Never a problem elaborating, it's always better to understand the full reason things happen)

So, just to clarify, if you are coasting in an L99, and the engine stalls, you either have to stop immediately or your bearings are toast?
