I bought a used front wheel and tire someone sold me because they got new wheels. I carry this in the trunk as a spare. The front fits on the back too. I've used it before.

Had my share of flats in the past 36 years of driving. I got it all.
Full size front stock SS wheel and tire strapped down in the trunk with all the hardware to change a tire/wheel, or plug and air up a tire or use the sealant. Everyone's different on how they handle problems on the road. If I was stranded somewhere because I did not have a spare, I would have to kick my own ass, and I am tired of doing that.

Wonderfully Awful Idea

+10 on the tspm's!!!! A year ago I picked up a CHUNK of metal about 1" X 1/4" through the center of the rear left tire. I kept my eye on the TSPM and made it home about 6 miles. Went from 36 psi to 22 psi at 20 psi I was going to stop if I didn't make it. No damage except the tire. $460 for a set of rears and was back on the road. there wad about 40% left and didn't want to buy 1 then 1 later then always out of order.

My husband's first mod to his SS was a real spare tire. He picked it up on eBay & it fits in the trunk in the same place where my 1LT's spare tire it came with fits and it fits over the SS brakes. No worries.

My inflator kit didn't even work when I got a flat, luckily I was at home, so I just took the wheel off, and took it to be replaced in my truck.

Been through this already with my SS. You can get an SS spare kit. See Post #44 in my SS build thread. 1LEs are a little more spare friendly than normal SSes as the tires are a little less truck tire tall. I only put this in the car for long trips. It's is out for drag racing.

I had to get my front right plugged a week ago. There was a 1/4-20 x 3" bolt punched into the tread. Luckily, it was a slow leak and when I cranked up one morning my TPMS showed 22 lbs. in the tire. Drove down to the corner gas station and had it fixed in 15 minutes. Got lucky. I don't like not having a spare but I try not to think about it.

I've also never even once had somebody break a window and put a thousand $100 bills inside my car. I sure hope I'm cursed now

1) Bought a Heritage wheel and tire cheap- its in the trunk.
2) Stowed a small hydraulic jack off to the side of the trunk 3) Tucked a criss-cross wrench under the spare for the lugs 4) LED flashlight 5) Plug Kit 6) Have the 150.00 option mini spare and manual jack under all of the above. 7) Mini compressor w/slime plug from my old Cobalt. A little overkill for an 80 mile commute to a one man shift that I have to be there for on time for. |
