Which floor jack do you use?

Does your floor jack fit under the front air dam and reach to the cross member?

Which floor jack is it, and would you recommend it?

Thanks in advance for all helpful responses. I am trying to choose the rright jack for the job.

I'm going to catch hell from other forum members here, but I recently bought a 3000 lb capacity aluminum "racing" floor jack from Harbor Freight for $90. Look, this jack is cheap and won't see much use, so I took a chance on it. Sadly, almost NO consumer quality floor jacks are made in North America anymore.

The "US General" brand jack has a 4.5" clearance height and works fine for the Camaro. (kills me that Chinese brands have names like US General, Central Hydraulic, Pittsburgh, etc.)

I picked up a Brunnhoelzl Warrior Jack from Pit Stop USA... made in USA. Expensive, but fabulous. (omegaman is right... tough to find stuff made here, anymore... sad). I'm not sure if it will reach the front crossmember (I've found spots on the side that allow a safe lift).

Thanks.

Where do you place your floor jack to lift the front wheel(s) from the side?

Search for lift or jack. PQ posted some awesome pictures of where to put a floor jack and jack stands.

Yes, I have seen those photos. The front cross member is recommended, which is a long reach.

That's why I'm wondering about other options.

What i do is drive up on two 2X6 so i can get the floor jack under the car and allow it to reach The front cross member, then any 1 3/4 - 2 1/2 ton will work.

This is the one I use too. Works great! Make sure you find a Harbor Freight coupon before you buy.

I picked up a expensive low profile jack and still couldnt get to the crossmember on my lowered camaro so i returned it. I would be suprised if any jack is capable of reaching this without driving up on some boards or ramps first. Its just to far back coming from the front, which makes it impossible to crank on the jack once its all the way under. You would need something really long

Good advice... google Harbor Freight 20% coupon, print, and take to store. I do that whenever I buy anything over $50 or so - its good for 20% off any single item. Tip: the discount also works on items already on sale.

This is the one I have:
http://www.harborfreight.com/rapid-p...lue-40105.html

I bought it on sale ($149) and used 20% coupon, bringing total to $119 + tax.

My previous two were Craftsman (2nd was Professional series). Hydrolics failed on both within 5 years of light use - that's why I went with HF.
