Shock/Strut Recommendtions

I recently took the car out on a 'back-road' cruise and did some pretty hard driving. I'm lowered on LG springs and the front end is LOW! I kept the stock shocks/struts since there was nothing out at the time. I've also got upgraded sway bars, motor mounts, tranny mounts, trailing arms, tie rod and just about every other bushing known to this car (full BMR kit).

Anyway, I think after my last drive my front shocks are shot. I keep bottoming out on the simplest of bumps. I knew the day would come (due to reduced suspension travel) but didn't think one little beating would defeat the stock shocks.

Anyway, before I go down the path of coilovers, I'm interested in hearing anyone's thoughts on upgraded shocks/struts that work on lowering springs.

thanks!

Curious to see what others suggest. I too feel its time for an upgrade as well. I catch potholes heavy.

It seems everyone is waiting on the Koni Yellows (adjustable) struts.

Koni Orange non-adjustable is available now (STR.T's) and should be a budget friendly upgrade from stock- and more tolerant of lowering.

On sale 25% off thru the end of the month I believe at BMR dealers.

Other then konis stock 1le shocks are pretty good. Coilovers would be ridetechs.

The part numbers have been out for like 6 months at least. I found a deal on some Eibach Multi pro R2's for $1400, the packaging was basically destroyed, and it was missing two spacers, but Eibach sent the missing spacers and nothing was damaged so I saved $2000 over retail. By the time these are on the self there will be a new body, koni doesn't seem to care about this segment of the market very much, unless you are in a Mustang, they have those.

Yes, Ventmaster is correct! The Koni STR.T's are your best option right now for an aftermarket replacement shock/strut set-up. We have the front struts in-stock, and should have the rears by the end of the month....hopefully. Koni has been painfully slow in releasing the Koni Adjustable Yellow's. The latest update we have heard is supposedly this coming Fall.....but then again.....knowing Koni.....I wouldn't hold your breath!!!!

No need to go aftermarket with your new struts. Reach into the GM parts bin for 1LE dampers.

But are the 1LE dampers any more tolerant of lowering that the non-1LE units?

There are no short stroke 5th GEN struts.

So then not even the Konis would be better from a lowering standpoint?

Although they are not a "short stroke" shock, from our experience, the Koni STR.T's handle the additional stresses of lowering springs better than any factory OEM product. They have a LIFETIME warranty through Koni and specifically state they are for use with performance lowering springs and other modifications. Direct from the Koni website....

STR.T Shocks
KONI's entry level performance STR.T (pronounced "Street") shocks and struts bring improved handling and KONl quality to the budget minded driving enthusiast. Whether to simply refresh and upgrade a stock vehicle or to match with street performance lowering springs and other modifications, KONl STR.T provides performance at a value price point.
