6,000ish rpm in first gear..

i was ripping it the other day, as i was in first gear i went past 6k rpm and i kept holding it down to see what would happen.. as i was at 6.5k it stopped and wouldnt let me drive unless i shifted.. it was like i couldnt rev or drive anymore. is that a rev limiter? what would that be?

Ya, thats a rev limiter. It kicks on at 6500rpm and wont re-enable the ignition system till it backs down to 6200rpm. Its not a smart idea to hit that. Stay around 6k for best results.

The car does that at 6500rpm it just means you have to slam it in reverse and then wait for the smell.

If this happens in 2nd or 3rd be sure to quickly slam down a gear and listen for unusual noises

Well in that case here's my joke answer, "nope, your car is just being timid, just keep holding it down, it will work itself out and start pulling again! Slam it in reverse a few good times and that will loosen her up a bit too! Gotta get her broke in good! Once you do that, the real test of strength is to run it down the quarter with the Ebrake on the whole way! That's where the real beasts stay!

Hell yes it's serious. The dumb questions are how to use navigation junk and such. The OP's question has serious implications.
