TSP VVT- 3 cam

I just got my car back from the speed shop that install the vvt3 cam and torque converter. My baseline whp with headers, exhaust, intake, gears and tune was 363 and my new whp is 421. I am kind of shock that I only got 58whp from the cam. I figured that if my car was stock maybe it the whp could of had been between 320 and 330 what most peolple get from the l99 and add an additional 100whp with the TSP vvt3 cam with supporting mods. But anyways, I am going back to the installer tomorrow because my car has died on me about 4 times on the stop lights when I was coming home, he used HP tuner on my car. The car runs really good while cruising but shakes like a mofo on idle. I only drove it about 20 miles on my way home. What are you thoughts?

Yeah that seems kinda low. TSP site shows that cam gaining 124 hp over the stock one. So even if you lose 25% of that thru the drivetrain, you should have still picked up ~90ish or so.

I would look at the tune, as your numbers for the before seem pretty stout. Running good while cruising doesn't mean there's no power left on the table.

421 probably isn't too bad of a number for an automatic with a cam. There could be some hp left on the table, but that isn't terrible from what I've seen here. You're on track, but a little low (maybe 10-20 hp) on the baseline for a '13+ due to the electric steering. I think you've got the right idea to go back to the tuner with it stalling on you multiple times on the way home, something is obviously not quite right. Good luck with the new setup!

I made 460HP on the dyno with my TSP VVT3. Keep in mind that this is their old 3.1 version, not their new 3.2 version.

Before the cam swap the car was dynoed with headers, intake, gears, exhaust and of course Dynosteve's tune. The car was on the shop for 2 weeks. I didn't care the installation was on point, but it was tuned last Friday. It has been race day for them The tech said he is going to retune it. I ran my scanner and saw my small fuel ratio on both banks staying near zero as possible so that seems okay. But anyways, I will let you know what are the #s tomorrow.

Size of stall converter weather and correction factor all come into play. I wouldnt get too caught up in dyno numbers. I switched from a tr6060 to a th400 and lost over 100hp. Find a car with 475-485 hp and get a run in or take it to the track.

Short term fuel ratio will always strive for 0 .. when there are large adjustments that will be seen in the long term #'s.. Essentially when the long term moves up the short term resets itself to that new range. Defiantly something not right if she is stalling.. Needs a doctor.

Done, the tuner had to lean the mixture at idle.

It has been a very long time since I felt a rocking from a cammed v8. I feel like the motor wants to get out of under the hood and kill me. I probably have to chain it up, lol.

I'd say you're in the ballpark rwhp wise based off my previous tsp cam. Punisher already weighed in all the things that can affect it. Go to track and see what it runs, that'll give you a true reading of where you are

Thats a good gain bud. 58rwhp off just a cam swap is nothing to sneeze at.

Impressive for an auto cam only! And the tune is def not done 100% since it stalls easily.
