Hard to tell, cause the masking defintiely took the longest. Jacking up the car, etc. I also did the sidemarkers while the wheels were out, and did other stuff while the paint dried. Dont want to put too much on at once or it will run, being a vertical surface and all. It takes two medium coats to cover it, or you will still see the old logo through the new one. The coating on the stock one actually keeps the caliper pretty clean, so a wire brush, a few rags, and a can of brake cleaner you can clean them really fast. If you brush it on, itll take a lot less time. |

Nope, this is my third car with vinyl caliper decals, lasted 6 years on my old car, and still looked good when I sold it

No, it isnt necessary. The pic below is my 4th gen, also using G2 caliper paint in victory red. The vinyl decals were on those calipers for 4 years in that picture. Some will advertise "high temp vinyl", but its all fine. The vinyl is so thin that heat doesnt effect it. The temperature on the hood of a car in an arab desert can get really friggin hot and vinyl stripes never have an issue on the hood. I know that calipers can get hotter, but its really not an issue. Pads and rotors get hotter, since that is what the friction is actually on. The caliper gets ambient heat, not much heat will travel through the pad into the piston, etc. Believe me, you can buy one set of decals and last at least 6 years. Also, just get two sets, and change em out in 6 years if you want. Takes 5 mins, and they are like 5$ haha. The 2 part epoxy is so durable that a clear coat isnt necessary. I wouldnt recommend the clear coat, as I would worry about it coming off, yellowing, or not adhering to the already glossy texture of the epoxy. |
