http://jalopnik.com/cars/muscle-car-...995-327843.php

Dodge Announces Pricing for All-new 2008 Challenger SRT8®
Dodge Challenger SRT8 available for $37,995

• The American muscle coupe is back, packed with modern technology and innovation
• Demand for contemporary version of iconic pony car drives Dodge to accept orders for the 2008 Challenger SRT8® beginning Dec. 3, 2007
• Introduction begins with limited-edition Dodge Challenger SRT8 models - each with numbered dash plaque
• Complete, broader Challenger lineup details and pricing still to come
• 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 models feature 6.1-liter HEMI® V-8 and are available in Black, Silver or HEMI Orange

Auburn Hills, Mich. - Dodge announced pricing today for the modern interpretation of the American muscle coupe. The 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8® will arrive in showrooms next spring at a Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $37,995 (which includes $675 destination).

Due to unprecedented demand, Dodge dealers will begin taking orders on Dec. 3 for the limited-edition 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 models. Each will feature a numbered dash plaque and a 6.1-liter HEMI® V-8 engine. 2008 Challenger SRT8 models will be available in Black, Silver and HEMI Orange. All will feature dual "carbon-fiber" hood stripes, harkening back to the original Dodge Challenger.

"The 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 offers pure American pony-car muscle," said James Press, Vice Chairman & President - Chrysler LLC. "With styling that stays true to Challenger's original heritage, an abundance of modern amenities and cutting-edge technology, the 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 will deliver the SRT credo of benchmark performance at a tremendous value.

"The Challenger SRT8 is only the beginning of the story, as we'll soon follow with a complete lineup of Challenger models that will offer a wide array of features and deliver outstanding value for our customers," Press added.

Customers may begin placing orders at their Dodge dealer on Monday, Dec. 3. They can expect to take delivery of their vehicle next spring.

The all-new 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 will be built at the Chrysler Canada Assembly Plant in Brampton, Ontario, on the same assembly line with the Dodge Charger, Charger SRT8, Magnum, Magnum SRT8, Chrysler 300 and Chrysler 300 SRT8 vehicles.

Pricing for the complete all-new Dodge Challenger lineup will be announced at a later date.

SRT performance vehicles - including the Dodge Viper SRT10, Dodge Caliber SRT4, Dodge Magnum SRT8, Dodge Charger SRT8, Chrysler 300C SRT8, Jeep® Grand Cherokee SRT8, and now, the Dodge Challenger SRT8 - are engineered by Chrysler's in-house performance organization: Street and Racing Technology.

The all-new 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 showcases the renowned, five key aspects of every SRT vehicle: exterior styling that resonates with the brand image; race-inspired interiors; world-class ride and handling characteristics across a broad range; benchmark braking; and standout powertrain. The all-new 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 will unquestionably deliver in all five areas.

Alright...how many horses is the SRT8? 425?
If so, we know what price the Top-end Camaro has to beat.

note: There will be a Camaro V8 for under 30k...that's not the one I'm referring to above

Cant really compare. Being a limited production car, dodge dealers will go crazy marking that turd up. I would be surprised to hear anyone getting one for less than $50K.

Sweet, another baseline for the Camaro. So that means that the base V8 will probably come in around 30k, with the top being between 35 and 40

Cant agree more.. and then i can see the whole "Iphone" debacle when it hits mainstream production and everyone not an 08 will pay "closer" to actual retail price.

The Challenger is now completely pointless. Great. If the Camaro is priced that way for a model around 425hp, then I will certainly be looking elsewhere.

This news isn't that big, and this shouldn't be so surprising.

The Chrysler 300 SRT-8s and Charger SRT-8s are all priced in the $38K+ area. The all have the same 6.1L engine, so why would the Challenger be priced any different?

Furthermore, we already leaned in the other Challenger thread that a Challenger R/T will be offered in the 09 model year with a 5.7L V8. That car will have 340hp and be priced under $30k just like.....surprise, surprise....the 300C and Charger R/T.

The writing was on the wall.

Its hard to justify $8K to jump from R/T to SRT8 don't you think?

not....really. Well, maybe it is.
Even though it's a different engine, and upgraded everything else (I'd assume)

Though...aren't these first ones going to be limited edition SRT8's? then after this they'll have the normal ones? I don't know...I really haven't followed the Challenger much

I think so. And the pricing is justified because in addition to the additional parts that are needed, you also pay for the honour of having something better. If people didn't pay for prestige, companies like Ferrari would have gone out of business ages ago.

40,095 for the srt8 now. so since dodge is taking orders for the challanger that comes out in february, can we expect chevy to do the same for the camaro? since its coming out in 09 first quarter but they start production in 08 (last quarter) ,can we expect them to take the orders for it 3 months ahead of production- so august or september of next year????

425+hp for $40k? I don't care WHO you are, thats still a damn good deal...

Look around folks... anyone see another company doing cheaper? Do you think anyone is going to?! You got to pay to play, and for a completely modern car with a warranty and everything, $40K isn't bad.

I'd guess that the regular V8 version (with the 362hp L76) will list around 30k (which is about right given the market place) and the SS (with some flavor of LS3 with ~450hp) should come in just under $40K without any options.

Sounds about right to me... and the Challenger pricing supports this as well.

i dont kow about that. i think the ls3 with no options should be around 32. fully loaded around 40k. and the ls8 or 9 (whatever) around 50k

Just bear in mind that these aren't your everyday SRT8's...I'd assume that at least 5k of that price is due to prestige...you've got to "pay to say" that you own a limited edition SRT8 Challenger, one of the first off the line.

I just hope that a comparable Camaro comes in closer to the 30k side of the map at any rate.
And if you factor in the power that come with this thing...and call it a bargain - absolutely agreed!

However, the last Camaro delivered performance using 350 horses...I've come to the conclusion that upping the ante by only 11hp over 7 years doesn't sound right, nor will it help the "class-leading" performance in a new, slightly fatter, Camaro.
