Redline

Howdy C5 members, I'm still a new addition to this family and am driving a 1LT/RS with just about 650 miles. Still have not redlined my baby and was just curious to see how long (how many miles) it took until you Redlined your baby for the first time. Thought it would be a fun thread to start

I'm also 17 and I'm trying to reframe myself from going crazy with my new ride

I don't know that I took mine to redline but came really damn close the moment I drove it out of the dealer parking lot. Went around the corner where there was a lot less traffic and hammered it right away. I probably had about 10 miles or so.

I try and do it every day. Sometimes twice a day. My car has 1134 miles on it now. I know it won't hurt my V8, but I don't know how it will effect your V6.

Just do it, it isn't going to hurt it. Engines are made much better than they used to be. Your car probably hit redline before you bought.

Those conservative types read their manuals and follow the "easy break-in". Says not to go past 4000 RPM's until 1500 miles. Or you could ignore it...

I honored the above except for a few times, then after 1500 miles never a concern. Rev it to your heart's content

At about 250 miles during first burnout and bounced it off the rev limiter numerous times. But i don't do that often or on purpose.

Redline is outside the powerband, there is no need to redline a car.

I broke mine in "under load", so the first order of business when I picked her up with six miles on her was to find a long on ramp to rolling start a hellatious row through third with no back pressure. I tried to shift just before red line and have only hit the RPM limiter once so far. I did this many, many, many times before 1500 miles.

She runs gr8, doesn't use oil and is about to turn 22,000 miles old.

For the most part, this. But I did rev her up to 7k once or twice "loosening up" the rear end
