I used it because I scored 2 cases for cheap.
It's oil.

There are several topics worth of debating about what to use and why.
I'm of the opinion that as long as you change it as recommended, the type and brand do not matter. I do use synthetic, and as I have the dealer perform the maintenance, I use Mobil 1 as that is what they stock. |

Iv been using pennzoil ultra from day 1 and zero problems. But like jimE said, just change it often if tracking the car or as recommended

The mobile 1 full synthetic is great so why defer from it? I change it myself and use a KN race oil filter.

I use Mobile 1 at the same weight/viscosity recommended in the manual. I change ever 10K miles or slightly earlier.
Back "in the day" you had to change ever 2 to 3K miles if you were a perfectionist or every 5K miles per the book. I did 2-3K on my '84 Z28. When GM created the Northstar engine servicing it was a thing in the past. And oil changes didn't require as few miles between changes. I used to have a Procurement Prof in college who swore that it wasn't changing the oil that was important. I twas changing the filter. Think about that for a moment. I don't follow such instructions but I'm not overly concerns with changing ever 8-10k miles nowadays. Last edited by CrystalRedTintcoat; 10-29-2016 at 01:21 AM. Reason: typo |

I've used RP for my last three oil changes, and track the car pretty regularly. I change my oil around every 3000-4000 miles, and the Blackstone reports show there's plenty of life left. I do agree with others. Good quality synthetic, changed regularly, is the real issue.

I used it once and didn't see or feel a problem with it, lasted the same as mobil 1 which i always use, i just wanted to try royal purple but only used it once because i read on the back of the jug that it said it would void the warranty (this was after i had already poured it in my car) so I went back to mobil1 just for the peace of mind

I'm a fan of Amsoil. Been using it in everything from tractor trailer rigs to race cars for years. Motor, trans, & dif.
I order it and have it the next day. But as JimE said the biggest issue is performing the oil changes on schedule. Oil filters might be more important than the brand of oil. You should check the micron size that's filtered. The info isn't available from all MFG's but with a little research you can usually find it. |
