If I get to that point, I'll just replace them around 150,000 for good measure. But I'm sitting at just over 18,150, so I think I have alittle time before I worry.
It's all subjective anyway.
Dino or synthetic oil?
How hard to you drive your Camaro?
Race any?
How often do you change your oil?
Catch can?

Just make sure you get the OLM re-flashed and don't go over 4,500 miles on an oil change.

I think GM engineers found that the oil became gas soaked around that range on direct injected motors. Dexos or full synthetic.

Don't recall what the miles were, it was over 115,000 when I changed my chains. Labor intensive. Now has +194,000 and my son drives it. I believe that short drives are harder on the chains than my Interstate miles have been on them. But what do I know. You have to buy at least the tools to hold the cams in place while you do the chains.

At the dealership now waiting on parts. The chain/chains are slack. 100,770 miles.

Hey Pie, I know you were wondering what a dealership charges....how about $2,050.00 plus tax. Makes that intense labor a little more bearable eh?

Yeah, it is labor intensive. Not for a noob to try. I even considered the possibility of having a roll back come get it! I was making a video on how to do it . Had uploaded them to the computer and never completed editing them before the pc crashed. Man, that was two years ago.

Well, I know you wondering what a dealership would charge. I don't have the time or talent for this DIY... gonna pay the $2000 and move on to the second 100,000 miles.

If you have the 2010, you may have the newest "updated" chain from the one you had in it. They keep updating them to improve the strength.

Nice to see you still driving it! I've slowed down since the wife commutes in the same direction as me now and use her car, Chevy Spark, err.

Am at 143,000 miles and still on original chain. Mine is a 2011 version, as I know some of the issues have been with the 2010's.

here's a question, once your timing chain needs to be replaced, is it fixed with an update parts or something. meaning that it wont happen again like on the 2011+ camaros and LFX ENGINE guys t
hat seem to have never had a chain failure ?

because if they just slap lipstick on a pig, and its going to keep breaking over and over, than forget it im going to sell mine for scrap to the junkyard.

I have 138k and started getting chain codes at 106K (yeah it was then MY problem) I got chains replaced several thousand miles ago..so I put about 25K miles on it after I started getting the codes..I had no power but I survived. I bought this kit
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ie=UTF8&psc=1#
which was missing one item that the mechanic reused from my engine (dont recall what it was) and everything has been fine since then.
That kit from what I understand has the upgraded chains in it.

Did you get the work done at a dealership or another mechanic?
