Time to start building/boosting the SS
For those of you who've built/boosted your ls3 camaros,
I will be boosting my camaro ss ls3 in the next few weeks and was wondering how hard it was to install the kit? I'll be going with ESS tuning (I get a good discount through a friend who's partnered with them), they use a vortech blower with their own accessories I believe. Do you have to pin the crank for this? What's the steps in order to pin the crank. Also, what numbers are you guys seeing on a ls3 fbo camaro? Currently has CAI, LTH, x pipe straight pipes, custom tune pushing 420whp 435wtq. What types of gains will I see blower only? Will also be adding a cam in the next week or so as well, do you all recommend a blower cam or is an n/a cam fine? Thanks in advance |

Always pin the crank, I am in the middle of my procharger build right now but its not my first either. The power is all going to depend on how much boost you intend on running, you will probably be around 520ish without a cam ...... but I don't know very much about the blower but ECS has a good rep for what they do. I am pretty sure you can google pinning the crank, its pretty easy, alot easier if you have a 90 degree drill. Search the DIY or Youtube.

Oh and get a blower cam for sure, I personally would stay away from Comp cam cores though. Cam motion or others use a better core quality IMHO. Could always have one spec'd through Pat G it cost like $20 to have him spec you one that is ordered through cam motion and cost similar to off the shelf stuff.

I emailed ESS to ask a few questions and to get the instructions. They were quick to reply, and the instructions are pretty straight forward. Looks like a great kit, please keep this thread updated!
I might purchase a supercharger around tax time next year, this kit is definitely on the list |

I'm going with an ESS kit as well, install date is Dec. 7th, just worried if their fuel system is going to be enough.

Doesn’t seem so, I only know of one person who has. He’s pushing 620whp w/o a cam. Seems to be a great kit

Magnuson 2300
I installed a Maggie by myself. Yes, you do need to pin the crank. As I remember it wasn't that difficult, I used my compressor and impact driver to remove the bolt. I used the floor jack handle as leverage to re-torque the pulley bolt. I didn't have to remove the fascia for the install (recommend installing the hoses on the SC radiator prior to install).
It was much easier than I expected. I haven’t had it dyno’ed yet but with all my mods I’m thinking I’m making around ~570hp (based on the sum of each mods independent gains, purely a guess. If there’s someone out there with equivalent mods, let me know what hp you’re making). I’m in Tucson and haven’t taken the time to drive to Phoenix for the dyno. The key is have fun!
