Sounds cheaper to just buy an LS3 crate with warranty (6K) and sell the L99 as a whole.....
Been down this road....
You start looking at LS3s then
LS376/525s
then
427s......
then
LSX454s

I think the best bang for the buck $/HP was buy 427 long block and sell the L99 long block......net cost was like 5K.

700.00- DOD Delete, HD IWIS Timing Chain, New Gaskets(MLS for the heads), ARP Bolts, Melling High Pressure Oil Pump, Stock LS3 cam, Fluids.
275.00- Patriot Extrme Valve Spring Kit
112.00- Heavy Duty Pushrods

Also getting the heads done for another 525.00.

With all the extra I added its gonna be $5700 out the door. But were looking to get around 500 rwhp.

Good luck with your conversion rickv16

Good luck.. If this is a L99 without FI don't see you getting even close to 500 RWHP with the setup you described..

I was quoted 1800 here in Vegas at Total Performance Engendering thats with a cam. And there very reputable There a site s on C6 forum. 650-700 for kit 300 or so for a mild cam so you can use stock springs. rest is labor. Add a few notes for aftermarket springs. But price will go up if you want to upgrade the valve train more

I agree with KARBON no way are you going to get any where near 500hp, with a stock LS3 cam at that

I was just giving an example of price. Im not going with a stock cam. There are also other parts to the build I didnt include. I didnt think they pertained to the thread.

Im doing more than I posted. I was just giving the price I was quoted for the conversion.

The total build sheet is to long and was trying my best no to thread jack.

I'd be curious to see that sheet for my own future builds...No disrespect, but even with ported heads and a large cam... you probably won't break 480 on an L99. It is possible, but I just don't see it personally.

With my mods, and a rather large cam (just smaller than the VVT3 from Texas speed I believe...) I only hit 440.

If you are hitting 500 with a cam and ported heads only on an L99...that will be one rough cam for a DD lol. I personally like it, but some may not. The torque converter will help tremendously, but also may wash a few horses on the dyno if you are number hunting.

Earlier this year I got 3 quotes for an L99 to LS3 conversion (including larger cam) - pretty close to $6k average parts & labor (all reputable sponsors here).

ooooo
Like I said ... I think its cheaper and safer to just get a crate LS3 or 376/525 with full warranty and sell the L99 as a whole. And you can always swap the cam on the 525.....it has the upgraded springs.

Dealers do engine R&Rs....14.7 hours fixed price....last time I checked.

Damn I made 400 and change to the crank and 377 RWHP and 376 torque just off long tube headers, full 3 inch exhaust, stage 2 intake, and a tune on the motor and transmission. And I'm an L99.

What about a lil different angle....what if you put the same money in the bottom of the engine verses the top....as in honing it out to a 416 and installing as high a compression piston that pump gas would allow....not sure about cost wise but I'm pretty sure a L99 with the bottom worked verses the top would eat LS3 converted L99 ....just a thought

Wish it was that easy to HONE it out to a 416, that would require a Stroker crank with a 4.0 stroke, forged rods and forged pistons.
