No, it's real. On the driver's side of the back seat, lift up the edge of the seat cushion and the compartment is "molded" low in the plastic side panel. It's kind of a pain to pull things out of there though...

There is that same area of space on the passenger side as well

I hadn't looked on that side yet. I'm guessing the spaces are there either for ease of installation or to save on the cost of material.

This might bring out the kid in me, but now I want to put one of those electronic fart boxes in there and prank whoever is unlucky enough to sit in the backseat.

The g/f discovered that if you remote start the car, get in and turn the key all the way to engage the starter again, nothing happens. Great safety feature for not damaging the starter/flexplate.

I think alot of cars have that now. They basically have a servo on the starter engage that doesn't allow it to try to engage once the engine is running. From what I understand, the ability to just click the key and have it start on its own is a by-product of the protection.

Yes. But, I have a miniature battery tender. To put it under the hood would mean I'd most likelly have to drill some holes someplace. I only use the battery tender in the winter and it mounts perfectly in the trunk so that's how I use the ports. However, good point those ports could be used for harnesses, tubing for meth or nitrous kits, et al.
