What's with that brown crap on top of the one jug from the old coolant?

Reviving this old thread: great write up but I can't get my 2010 V6 to drain more, or take more, than just a little under 3/4 of a gallon of coolant at a time. And that includes pulling the small hose off the small reservoir and siphoning it out! Ran almost 3 gallons of distilled water thru it and it's still a little orange. Taking way too much time and effort. There's gotta be more hiding somewhere. I even turned on the heater to flush thru heater core. Any better way of draining more out of it?

And what's the reason for using distilled water to do a flush or rinse prior to refilling with anitfreeze??

Because regular garden hose or tap water has minerals in it that will corrode the system over time, distilled water is literally what it is distilled, zero impurities.

Anyone know how best to "burp" the engine and intercooler systems?
I want to do both on my ZL1 but hear many conflicting stories on how to do the burp.
