Hawk ceramic pads

Question for those of you that have switched to Hawk ceramics. Looks like the fronts on the ZL1 do not have shims but the rears look like they have them. Do you use the stock ones for the rear on the Hawks? Thanks

Good question, I didn't put the shim in with the new pads. Should I go back in and add the shim?

Smile Called Hawk

R&D guy said for the fronts just apply the supplied high temp grease where the three caliper pistons hit the back of the metal plate on the pad. Grease the pins also. For the rear he said don't use the OE shimes just use what comes on the Hawk pad. Again apply grease to the two areas on the back of the pad where the caliper pistons hit it. Apply grease to the two pins. Very important to use 130 grit sandpaper and lightly sand rotors then use brake cleaner to get the film and filings off the rotor. Make sure rotors are cleaned good. Hope this helps all you Hawk pad fans.

First mod was Hawk Ceramics 1 year ago..dust is incredibly reduced and what dust you will expierence is light tan color. Extended the detail frequency dumping the OEM pads. I don't track mine......yet......but the Hawk Ceramics shut it down real quick from 140 mph I can tell you

so they stop better and less dust? how do they compare in cost to the factory set? my black rims usually look dark brown in 2 days from the factory pads dust.

I wouldn't say they stop better, they perform almost as good. Unless your hard core on a track I don't think you would notice. I paid 240 for the two sets, I know some have paid less. Less dust is an understatement, my car was covered with black dust, now as stated above, little dust and a light color not black!

You better never take your car to the track with ceramic pads. They will melt after 2 laps.

Ceramic pads do not stop better than OEM.
