Where to tap for light in engine bay
Morning All,
I’d like to put a couple of LED on my engine bay. I don’t want to add a switch, just want to tap a source that will be powered only when the car is on, of when the car is off. Can anyone let me know the location/fuse to tap. TIA |

Why would you want to run them only when the car is running? No one will see them unless your stopped with the hood open and your car running. That seems silly to me You can tap into the outputs in the center console if thats really what you want to do. I have Oracle LED strips in my engine bay with a switch for car shows. Its very simple to do and even comes with the switch.

your best bet is to get a tilt switch of some kind, I used these for the under hood lights I put on my Avalanche:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mercury-Tilt...-/120624135706 you attach that to the GROUND side of the circuit, not the power.. you attach the power to an always hot connection, I might suggest using the battery jump start terminal under the hood, with a inline attached. this way any time you open the hood they light up, they always have power, and when the hood is closed the ground loop is broken and they turn off.. great for show lights or usable under hood lights for side of road emergencies.

horn is fuse #51 in the under hood fuse block, pretty sure it is always hot.. you could use one of those add a circuit fuse things from autozone to make the led fuse link:

the horn fuse wont work, figure the horn has to be pressed in order for power to go through the fuse...

I bought these fuse taps on eBay and they work great. I tapped into a
10A accessory fuse for my front LED's. http://www.ebay.com/itm/ATM-Mini-Add...#ht_1540wt_896 Russ |

I installed mine in the engine bay and the grille. I got mine from oznium.com and ran them to the fuse box with a "add a circuit" which u can get here http://www.oznium.com/add-a-circuit-fuse-holder. If you have any questions let me know i can help you out. :P
