OEM brakes ok for HPDE?

Im going to change my brake fluid and upgrade to BSS brake lines for the HPDE at the Fest but will the OEM brake pads be sufficent?

dont really feel like dropping a few hundred on 4 new brakes pads since the stockers only have like 6500 miles on them.

You will be fine.....I used to HPDE in a 2007 TSX and the brakes went for almost another year after 2 weekend sessions. And I think when I had about the same amount of miles on those brakes.

I wouldn't worry too much, the brakes will hold up fine, maybe you will shorten the lifespan by half a month to a month. But don't worry about spending money on them right away to replace them.

I have exactly the same mileage and bought the Hawk HPS brake pads along with Super Blue fluid.

Im not so much concerned about the lifespan as much as overheating the OEM pads and have them fail on me.

Not all that familiar with firebird but I understand its a short track just over a mile lone. Sessions are only 15 min ea and 3 of them. Track temps could be around 120. Unless you are a real bad driver you should be fine. Normally I run 20 min sessions and am pushing significantly more HP and hitting 145 on the backstretches at high plains raceway in Colorado. I have done 3 full track days (10 20 min sessions each) and still running on stock pads. Brake fluid upgrade is vital as you will boil it before you experience much fade. However, track temps will have an effect on these brakes so I would check your rotor temps after the first run so you dont overheat them. try and stay under 700 degrees. After your run do not just go park. Cruise around the parking lot not using your brakes to get some air thru them to cool them down before stopping. If you park with hot brakes you will superheat the section of the rotor under your pads and could warp them pretty easy.

Have fun...its a blast.

Yes, the stock brake pads hold up pretty good. They won't melt into oblivion..

Upgrade the fluid and change the lines to SS and you will be fine.
