The dealer can't make you or do the recall without your permission. They had a recall a few years ago where they removed the heated washer fluid system from tahoes and suburbans but gave the customer the option to have it done and reimbursed them $100 for doing it. My guess is they will let the owner decide and the key/fob option will most likely be what the silverado currently has.

My recollection was that if you refused the safety recall you had to sign a waiver.

So what happens if you refuse and sign waiver - still covered with insurance?

I wouldn't be so sure of that. They've stopped the sale of cars. I bought one. They are not letting me take it home.

I heard it is a GM plot because new C7 Corvette owners were cry babies and said they thought our Camaro keys were cool and so GM is collecting them through a fake recall and going to give us shitty keys and give the switch blades to the C7 Corvette buyers.

My 2014 Malibu has the same key set-up,but no recall for it. Just checked both Camaro and Malibu; I would have to be a double-jointed contortionist to have my knee contact the key in either car. I can think of better ways for GM to attempt to write off profits as expenses. Ludicrous rationale; illogical; not scientifically valid nor supported by engineering evidence.

Corvettes get push button start and wouldn't want switchblade keys anyways.

Yea, Let's go back to the conventional key feature where we can once again dangle two pounds of other keys and assorted objects onto the ring which started this whole mess to begin with. I'm glad we have brilliant politicians looking out for all of us on this dire issue.

I'm keeping my key fob, but if I was forced to change, I would go with something like this. http://www.advancedkeys.com/Prod_AK104B.html

The dealer I work for sells cars every day that are on the no sale list due to recalls, they don't care, so I guess it's up to the dealer.

Your right they did have to sign a waiver but I'm not sure that would hold up in court.......

Wouldn't be worth it to lose the warranty and have potential additional liability exposure.

Not going to do this. I don't drive where my knee is even close to the fob (I literally drive with my seat all the way back).

I don't have anything on my key fob but my house key. I would hit the steering wheel first before the fob...

I feel for those of you who have to wait -- that is a bummer for sure

I don't have a choice, the Dealer won't release it.

And your right, if it's going to take weeks to resolve this I am going to buy a Stingray.
