All Season vs Winter Tires
Ok I know this topic has been beaten to death but I need help deciding whether to buy dedicated winter tires or all seasons. I partially daily drive my camaro and it will see some snow but mostly I need to get those P-Zeroes off with this cold weather. I want better wet traction too.

Living in a cold climate I can tell you the difference between all season and winter is huge. It's not all about tread design, but also about the rubber compound. True winter tires will stay softer in colder weather providing better traction. I don't run my camaro in the winter up here but use my Trailblazer. With all seasons come early winter I need 4WD to get out my driveway. Slap on the Blizzaks and if I throttle appropriately I can get out in 2WD.
The down side is they wear out quicker. Way safer and in my opinion well worth it. I even choose to run Blizzaks over true studded tires. I love them. |

I'm leaning towards G-MAX AS-03. Rating very good dry, wet and snow traction and noise. Also rated the highest in tread life.

You can't beat a dedicated rim/snow tire combo for the winter months. You should easily get 3 seasons out of them.
Also that allows you to get a dedicated summer tire, and both of those are the best at what they do

It depends where you live. A snow tire will have much better traction in snow. If you just mainly see cold weather an all season will work fine. If you see more than a couple inches of snow a few times a year I would go snow tire. General Gmax AS03 has been a very popular all season and Pirelli Scorpion Ice and Snow has been a favorite snow tire.

Thanks for the replies guys!
I've been looking into the General Gmax AS-03 as I've seen a lot of good reviews on them. Plus the price is a hell of a lot cheaper than all the other options. I live in Massachusetts so I see snow accumulation about every 2 weeks during the winter. I'd like to get a winter beater car/truck but its not in the finances. I figure any tire will be better than the factory P-Zeroes for the winter. With the all seasons I can have better wet traction all year round too. If I were to get a dedicated winter rim and tire package I'd be into it for probably $2500 which could buy me a beater 4x4 and I wouldn't have to expose the Camaro to the salt and snow at all. So I'm just going to stick with tires for now. Sent from my Galaxy S3

I understand that, but with All-Seasons, the first tread pattern to wear off is the winter part. Then they become just wet/dry tires.

When I lived in Brookline and Quincy as a kid I don't recall getting much snow accumulation, and it does not get as cold as it gets here in Chicago. I can see where you might get all seasons. I opted for snow tires here.

I dont know about $2500, I spent $1600 OTD for wheels and blizzak dv-1s with sensors. You can downsize to 19inch for winter. I went with the cheapest rims that would fit with the rollerskates, but they actually look pretty good. If I slide into a curb and ruin the rim, I'm out 165 bucks which is cheap imo.

Two days ago I picked up 4 brand new 19inch rims, and 4 blizzak dv-1, with all tire sensors and mounting, for $1627.00. That included everything, even tax. The shop will swap the wheels for me each season. Tire rack was expensive, unfortunately, especially when you factor in shipping. *edit* I have to check, but I'm pretty confident I also have road hazard protection as well. So how do I know which 19" fit over the roller skates?
