M6 newb - question

My 2011 SS has the LS3 with the M6 trans. I learned to drive a manual about 10 years ago in a Ford Ranger and since then, have driven a manual on occassion but never as a DD or enough to call it regular. Since this is the first vehicle that I actually drive regularly that is a manual, naturally I still have some kinks to work out on my technique. So far, however, I'm doing pretty well and have all my shifts down, smooth, don't stall, etc. However, when I shift from 4 to 5, regardless of speed, it seems that I just can't smooth out that shift like I can the others. 1 through 4 I can make it feel like there is NO shifting being done at all, i.e. no drive line jolt... nice and smooth... however, 4 to 5, I always get a little drive-line jolt, regardless of clutch speed (at least I think so). I usually get into 5th anywhere between 40 MPH and 55 MPH, depending on the situation.

Am I doing something wrong? Any input is appreciated.

Don't be too rough on the newb ... and NO, I shouldn't have gotten an automatic

Try shifting higher up:

1-2 20mph
2-3 35mph
3-4 45mph
4-5 65mph
5-6 65+ for gas mileage

Just driving around normally, i shift around 3500 rpm don't ever get any gear lash.

And the lash you are getting could be from the slower 4-5 shift since you have to push the shifter toward the right to avoid 3rd gear. So don't let the clutch out as fast, keep your heal on the floor and lift your toes then pull your foot back...

yup... more speed.. If you are going into 5th gear at 45 it's too slow for that gear.

Personally when around town going 0-55 mph, I drive it like a 4 speed. The only time I use 5th & 6th is long durations at 50-55 or on the Interstate.
