Pedders ZL1 Sway Bar Question.

Hey guys,

Just did a huge mod weekend and got the Pedders Rear Cradle bushings in and did a Front and Rear Pedders ZL1 sway bars.

My question is, why are the endlinks from Pedders so strange?

By that I mean, what are there so many bushings.. solid space rode, bushings, washers..

They were a huge pain in the ass to put in.

Not sure why they are not like the ones pictured here. (found on the web)

The end links in the bottom two pictures are the stock ones from GM.

Not sure how the Pedders ones are different, except the are RED.

How were they difficult to install? It is a bolt that goes through all of the bushings, rod, washers and then a nut on top.

The Bushings go above and below both the swaybar and the control arm.

Starting from the top
Washer
Bushing
Swaybar
Bushing
Washer
Spacer
Washer
Bushing
Control Arm
Bushing
Washer

Does this help?

They are very nice, it's hard to put a number to 'how much better', but people have been very happy.

You have to stick you pinky up in the hole to hold the bold and all the washers, bushing, spacer from dropping off.

We could only get the end links in with full weight on the suspension. Is this correct?

And that is barely in.

They should be tightened with the weight on the wheels,
as long as there are some threads protruding from the nut you should be ok.

The stock ones do the same thing. There is a bolt inside that black tube/sleeve. When installing mine what I didn't know is if the nut was supposed to be at the bottom under the LCA or at the top so I guessed going by basics that the nut typically goes on the bottom. It may not make a difference either way though.

I've never seen Pedders drop links in person but my guess is that the difference is that Pedders probably uses a metal sleeve vs OEM which is more of a plastic one. Pedders probably uses a larger sized nut/bolt as well. Again, I can't confirm that since I've never seen them in person.

Here in these pics you can see the bolt that goes inside that black sleeve. In the second one is the bolt and the sleeve. The first time I was going to come up and put the nut on top but then decided to flip it an put the nut on the bottom.

BTW: there are no more bushings than pretty much any typical drop link style end links for sway bars. My '69 front sway bar has the same 8 bushings, 4 washer, 1 bolt setup. The only difference is there isn't a sleeve to go around the bolt.
