Yes, known issue in the 2011s. Dealer took care of it for me.

I got the alert on the OnStar report to run diagnostics. The OnStar rep said it was the back-up battery. I called the dealer this morning and they have one. So off to get it replaced under warranty.

Another OnStar Backup Battery Failure
The OnStar red led is on again. OnStar ran their diagnostics and they said it is the backup battery. Off to the dealer again for the second time for this issue. With the other postings on this issue it seems there has to be a problem with 2011 model OnStar.

hmmm, my wifes onstar on her 2010 has never had any battery replacement yet

Wish I knew mine needed replacement so I wouldn't go get it replaced and thus know onstar is dead in my car.
