By the way, it's not called "measured rim range", but rather just "recommended/approved rim range". Measured width just means the size of wheel used to take the measurements like thread width, etc. for the tire specs.

Hey there. The Hoosiers have a similar distinction like Goodyear, measured vs approved. Measured is where they measured and tested the tire. Approved is the size range the tire is approved for.

If I had gotten the z28 wheels I'd have 11" front and 12" rear. As it stands I'm still at 10/11 front/rear.

If their approved range starts from 10", then you should be perfectly safe! That's a huge range by the way; it's usually about 1" difference from the lowest recommended to the highest.

Z/28 wheels are 11"-wide at the front, and 11.5"-wide at the rear:

I used to be really concerned about exactly matching my tire width to the ideal for my wheel width. However in actual use, I've found a much bigger benefit to using a tire on the wide side for a given wheel. An example- My Vipers' front wheel is 10.5" wide, and so I ran a 285 slick which is right in the sweet spot for that slick. Then I tried a 315 slick, and the difference was night and day better.

So I'd go with a 305 on a 10" wide front / 11" wide rear wheel, I think it will kick ass.

This is a very interesting thread to me. I'll be getting another set of G2s before the auto-cross season next year and had thought that on our 20" rims, 285 was as far as we could go without rubbing.

The Z/28 for instance had to add fender flares (which I assume means that the wheel has got a different offset that pushes it out farther) and went with a smaller diameter wheel (which has a number of benefits, but I assumed one of them had to do with wheel clearance with regards to the shocks/springs).

Has anyone run a 295 or 305 on the front of their 1LE and NOT had any rubbing issues? I'd be on that like a fly on dung.

Rubbing is my concern too. I'll be testing at Goodyear soon and will report back. Told them I won't buy if it rubs.

Offsets on the wheel are the issue as to how well they will work. The L/28 has Forgelines with offsets to fit the wider tire up front....I am not sure a 1LE standard wheel is going to have the correct offset to wedge a 305 up front...My wheels are set up to run the 295 Michelin's which are wider than most 305's, not a lot of room to spare on the inside...good luck

Depending on profile, some of the 295/305 options are also taller, further reducing the available clearance.

I still think 285 NT01s would annihilate 305 G:2s, so if I were to stay with stock wheel sizes, I'd do just that

I don't know what Nitto did with NT01 compound, but I drove around town with my Miata last week with my track wheels, in the middle of winter, and they still have incredible grip! Very impressive considering RS3s were like a rock on my 1LE just the day before (until they warmed up).

I totally agree with this. NT01s, even though narrower, for the win! I hadn't realized we had crossed between street tires and R compounds.

Loved my NT01s, kicked ass all the way to cord. Never heat cycled out appreciably.

Since NT01s don't lose grip, we've used them through all summer, including at the street. You could not do so with pretty much any other tire, except perhaps MPSC 2s. Seattle's winter is mild anyway (it's around 45 degrees during the day these days), we'll just keep them on the Miatas

If you're doing track I wouldn't use the 305 setup.

Why? 305s are pretty good for track in my experience. I don't mind them at the street, either.

These cars need as much grip as they can get....if it didn't improve performance, Lingenfelter, Danny Popp and Justice Pete wouldn't be running those sizes on the L/28...
