Different size shafts

I was replacing my mufflers this weekend when I noticed that the drive shaft from the differential to the passenger side rear wheel is much thicker than the driver side drive shaft. I can't think of a reason why one would be thicker than the other. Both appear to be the same length. I have a 2SS A6. Is this configuration normal.

This was done in part, to eliminate wheel hop.

It helps tame the dreaded rear wheel hop under hard acceleration. Corvette ZR-1 has it also. But Cadillac was first to figure it out, I think.
