2nd Annual Winthrop Cruise

Happy New Year, everyone.

It's still early, but I wanted to get started on getting the word out for the 2nd Annual Winthrop Cruise. Last year, we had a blast with 8 2010 Camaro's showing up. I'm hoping we can get even more this year.

Here's a video of last years cruise!

Last year, we started in Bellingham. This year, I think I'm going to change up the start point to a little further south. I was considering starting in Everett or Monroe this year, and taking a slightly different route to get to Route 20.

We will be doing this on Saturday May 7th (see next paragraph), with an optional different route back on Sunday May 8th for those that choose to stay in Winthrop overnight. Last year we all went our own way on Sunday, but anyone that wants to join me on a drive further east, then south to 90 is welcome. Again, I'll have details on the route for both Saturday and Sunday as we approach the weekend of the cruise.

Note that May 7th is semi-tentative. I recommend getting reservations at one of the hotels I list here if you plan on staying overnight, but understand that this is all based on the Route 20 pass opening by then. In years past, Route 20 is almost always open by then, but not always. Last year we stayed at the Hotel Rio Vista. I may stay at the Rivers Edge Resort this year. I'm pretty sure the hotels will work with you to change the reservations if the pass doesn't open by the 7th. If the pass doesn't open for some reason, the cruise will be postponed until it is.

If you think you'll be interested in going this year, message me or reply to this thread.

edit: I will be staying at the Hotel Rio Vista again this year. If you plan on going, you'll want to make your reservation sooner rather than later, because it is the 49er weekend, and as that weekend approaches, he may start requiring the stay to be 2 days rather than 1.

edit: If you're planning on going, consider getting a CB for in-car communications during the run in the mountains. Not required!

edit: Here is a list of those who have made reservations at Rio Vista, and those who have expressed interest in attending.

I am definitely interested in attending - and I like that you plan around both options of folks being able to stay the night or head back home.

So I made some calls to Rivers Edge Resort and Sun Mountain Lodge to see if I could get one of their cabins, and they only do those for 2 nights minimum. Grr.

I probably can still do Rio Vista, but I was hoping to try something different. I still may see if Sun Mountain Lodge does regular rooms in the Lodge itself for just the Saturday night.

It works for us too. I loved the sound of the river running by the window.

Oh, and I think we should plan on the group going to Sun Mountain Lodge again for dinner. It's a short fun drive up the hill, and it's a beautiful setting and place to eat.

Sounds great! We can't commit just yet, but we'll get back to you closer to the day. Thanks for planning the cruise.
