Amount of oil???
Ok I have an LS3, in a lot of threads I have read C5 members state they use 8 1/2 quarts for an oil change. I just changed mine (2013 2SS) the manual states oil and filter change 8 quart. What is the reason for the extra half quart? I started the car to circulate the oil so I'm waiting for the oil to settle to check the level.

I would say the half quart comes from guys filling up the filter before putting it on. I would always recommend filling your filter with oil before putting in on to prevent a "dry start" after you change your oil.
But the poster above is correct....8 quarts is enough |

I put 8 quarts in mine, but didn't like it showing a half quart low on the dipstick, so I added the half quart so it was at the full mark. My thought is, gm put the marks on the dipstick for a reason.

The filter wicks in a little oil, depending on the type/size filter it can be close to 1/2 quart. Of course this includes what stays inside the bypass area all the time.

Amount of oil???
I as well as many other run 7.5qts, do a search. These engines (LS3 & L99) like to run a bit low and even run a bit quieter, especially the L99's. 8.5qts is TOO much. The most I would put is 8 (capacity) but as you can see I won't even go that much.

The oil capacity of the L99 is 8 qts not 8.5

Book says 8.0 qts. I use 8.0 qts. And I do fill the filter about 3/4 full before installing.
