Is there a recommended temp to drive the Zl1?

I seen somewhere that you couldn't drive the Zl1 in temperatures under 40 degrees is that true?

Not the ZL1 itself, but the tires yes. The ZL1 comes with performance summer tires, which are not rated to go below 40 degrees.

umm...pretty certain the cold weather test team would disagree with this. I have never heard of any manufacturer limiting the use of their cars to certain temperatures...however I bet the tires would SUCK at those temps. Traction = NADA.

What Stieger said. (he beat me by seconds!)

Someone research this as its 30 degrees in Dallas this moment. Ill be darned if I don't drive my car in 30 degree weather. You mean we have to change the tires for winter use?
What crap. 2/3's of the nations temperature at this moment is below 40 degrees at this writing.

Super chargers run hot, robbing volumetric effieciency and subsequent power. Cooler ambient air temps, cold dense air, good for power. We like that. Hmmmm. Opposite side of the coin. Performance tires and suspension in cold temp's on cold surfaces aint' good. No stick, rigidity, lots of slide. Go figure. Sometimes it's just nothing short of horsepower Nirvana going balls to the wall and turning the steering wheel. As said here before...how did we ever live without MRC? Hahahah.....we drove it like we stole it....and if we didn't get killed or busted, we got good at it...heheh...

Thanks...The black and white 68 RS was a 468 Big block... I miss him...
Traded him off to purchase a new harley sportster of all things. What was I thinking? LOL! I drove him for 5 years as a daily driver. You see, I am not afraid to drive my toys any time, day, night, rain, sleet, shine...He had a solid lift cam with over 600 lift... Drove him daily to work and back which is about a 60 mile round trip. Yea cars like that are getting more harder and harder to come by and if anyone has a first or second gen they need to hang on to it for sure.
Back to the point id like to make... I would not be afraid to drive a 68 camaro 468 big block out in the snow, but this thread is starting to sound to me that when the time comes to drive the ZL1 in snow or cold weather I can't because the temp is too cold for the tires? Or does this simply mean the "performance" level of the tire at 40 degrees or below is diminished?
Well if there's any danger to them blowing out in cold weather I guess they will have to blow as id be deg gummed if im replacing tires in less than a year for ANY reason. End of that rant.

Well, while I love your respect of the Camaro, I gotta tell ya, it's not the Camaro's fault that the tires are not recommended to be driven <40 degrees. It's the tire mfr.'s issue.
Now, could GM have mandated the mfr. make a yr around tire? Probably. But, it would have hurt performance tests. Like OldScool, I, too, love the extra performance the dense cold air gives a car. You can "feel" it. I also believe we can drive the cars in <40, but best to be real careful not to cause flex on the sidewalls.
I've asked a many on here before, IS THERE a tire that IS recommended to put on the car <40 degrees? I'd like to see GM at least announce that too.... along with a cheap "rim" option that would fit. (so I could carry one of my winter tires as a spare in the summer, and one of my summer tires as a spare in the winter). PLZ don't tell me I won't have room for my luggage! Plus, Im not concerned about the extra 65 lbs of weight or so. Shoot, I'll have my wife and dog with me anyway.
Very nice Camaro. Love the way it looks.

Here is a copy of a Service Bulletin from Goodyear --

PSB #2011-10

TO: Goodyear Contract Dealers, Goodyear Canada Inc. Dealers, Goodyear Company Owned Stores

Subject: Eagle F1 Supercar G:2 Summer Tires Not Recommended for Winter Use

Goodyear F1 Supercar G:2’s are D.O.T. approved ultra high performance summer tires with track capability. The rubber used in these tires loses flexibility and may develop surface cracks in the tire tread/shoulder area at colder temperatures. Goodyear does not recommend using these high performance summer tires when temperatures drop to approximately 40 deg F (5 deg C) or below, or in snow/ice conditions.

Tire Storage
Follow the general tire storage recommendations in Product Service Bulletin 2010-21, Proper Procedures for the Storage of Tires. Further, it is recommended for these tires to be stored indoors at temperatures above 20 deg F (-7 deg C) when not in use. If the tires have been subject to 20 deg F (-7 deg C) or less, let them warm up in a heated space to at least 40 deg F for 24 hours or more before installation or driving the vehicle. Inflate the tires only after they have been warmed above 40 deg F (5 deg C). Do not place tires near heaters or heating devices used to warm the room where the tires are stored. Do not apply heat or blow heated air directly on the tires. Always inspect tires before use after storage periods as outlined in the Proper Procedures for the Storage of Tires bulletin.
