I believe the OEM Hurst Shifter & the after market Hurst Shifter are both Hurst PN 391-6030.

The OEM Hurst shifter is not the aftermarket Unit sold by retailers. The OEM Hurst shifter is very similar to the stock shifter, slightly redesigned with a shorter throw.

These bushings will not fit the OEM unit. The aftermarket and OEM are completely different shifters. Pics of the KAE factory unit are bellow.

Installed it today. Boy was burnishing a PAIN. It took me 3 hours to do both bushings. It was a slooooow process. After all that was said and done, the cross pin went in with slight resistance so it seems just right. Prior to these bushings, I was getting 1/2" of play. Now it's down to about 1/4". Yes, there is a still a little bit of wobble, but it's not from these new bushings. These bushings got all the wobble out from one side completely. After getting everything back in, I can tell that the wobble is in another part of the transmission. It looks to be from the transmission side of the arm(fork) that attaches to the shifter. Also let me just say...everything is a VERY tight fit. I took a digital caliper and measured from one side of the bushing to the other and it came out to 1.470". Here are some tips.
1. Make sure you have a 1/2" drill. I have a 3/8" drill(very common) and the cross pin would not fit into the teeth of it. I had to pick up a cheap one from OSH. 2. Put the car into neutral before taking the shifter out. 3. After getting the new bushings into the shifter, I would test fit it in the car before the burnishing step to make sure that it fits back into the fork coming from the transmission. I got a big scare after putting it all back in and then felt that the fork would not slip over the bushings. |
