hmm...intake, headers, tune, $$!
At first I was thinking i'd throw some LT headers & high flow cats on, combined with a cold air intake and a tune. After adding up the money for all this stuff, i'm thinking it makes more sense to just spend more and install a supercharger instead. Maybe a whipple or the new edelbrock kit? Am i crazy for thinking like this? The way I look at it, CAI combined w/LT headers could potentially give me around 40 more horses, give or take. At about $2300 (tune included) that's around $58 per horsepower. A supercharger kit comes w/everything you need and produces approx 200 extra horses on a bone stock Camaro. Say if it costs $7000 total thats $35 per horse, and seems like a better choice. Yes, 7000 is a LOT more than 2300, but really, who wants to stop at headers and intake?? On the other hand, I think 200 extra, totally streetable horses would keep me happy for a long time. What does everyone think?

You can always add a supercharger later and really benefit from the headers and intake

Cost per hp wise the s/c is def the best deal but it all depends on how much you want to shell out at once. I did the LT's, cai and a tune thinking that would get me by but a few weeks later I was back at Jannetty Racing for the maggie and meth. You won't get 200 hp out of just a supercharger. The stock s/c is good for about 480 rwhp. You need the change the pulley and with the supporting mods you can get close to 500. Call Jannetty in the am and pick Teds brain. He knows all the pros and cons of what to do to these cars. For not much over 10k in mods I have 550 / 550 to the wheels and a 10 second time slip.

I'm in the same boat. Cause i want that thumpity thump from a cam, and definitely think the stock exhaust is too quiet. So do I go that route or Supercharger route? Both, would seem too expensive for the overall gain. So what's the best, most dependable and best for longevity? |
