Bill
I know I would catch hell in the Corvette forums but the Z06 in my opinion is not the greatest track car. It is light and it does accelerate and corner well... but it is kind of unruly at the limit, I'm sure if I do a little searching I can find others besides myself that have observed this.... Since the purpose of a track car is to drive it at the limits it is just not quite as fun when you go home and feel like you have been in a cage fight.... That is why I don't have a Z06 right now, I prefer the ZL1 with some mods... If the Z/28 is as controllable it will be a big improvement over the last gen Z06.

I'll go a step further and emphasize the best Camaro option is the 1LE. Close track performance to the ZL1 (right there/ahead of a Boss 302 Laguna Seca) with all the daily driver goodies, doesn't break the bank and actually looks the meanest with the black hood and black wheels.

Generally, the higher HP car is always more expensive. Throw in the fact that the Z28 is de-contented and the only reason GM is pricing it more is because they know that there'll be buyers for the limited run (Ford's been doing the limited run thing for years now with all those special Mustangs ... GM's finally getting in on it).

I know it's capitalism but you can bet your bottom dollar they're making waaay more profit on the Z28 than they are on the ZL1 and I think it's wrong personally.
I think you're looking at it wrong. Yes, it's "de-contented" for creature comfort; but the added performance contents are what's driving up the cost. Those performance contents are pretty exotic for any car let alone an American performance car. Also consider the car has to get re-certified because of the lack of AC.

I should add it's not like it's a stripped down theft recovery vehicle. It still has a full interior with great seats.

Why over ZL1? Dry sump, brakes, shocks, wheel/tire package.
Why not? Price, if the Z/28 is 70K you could have a ZL1 with dry sump, upgraded brakes, and track wheels/tires for the same price.

If the Z/28 was 49K it would totally make sense to me.

Drag race a Z/28?

What will it take to do this?

I mean, who drag races a "stock" car?

Id love to rock a Z28 as a weekend warrior. I mean come on guys this car has already ran the ring at 7:31 on a dry track. This cars is so much faster around the ring that the ZL1. It's truly a precision weapon on a road course. A Z28 with a cam and head/valve job would just sound like perfection at a stop light not to mention put down some serious numbers.

Forsure LSA is easier to work on and the ZL1 is the better grand tourer. Camaro has come along way since 2011.

I think we're a little missing the point. On the track the z28 stock will take a stock zl1. Better tires on the ZL1 and it might gain some ground, but in the end, the z28 will stop and grip better.
What the z28 will suck at is back road shenanigans. I've played with all sorts of supercars on the back roads and what the ZL1 suspension does really well it suck up pot holes and handle uneven road. I had a friend in a GT-R said his car got too squirrelly on him and he couldn't keep up with me at all and he has AWD. MRC is certainly no joke of a suspension system.
The Z28 will be a lot of fun on the track. The ZL1 may have been dethroned as the best Camaro for the track, but its still the king of the street. The ZL1 is the more rounded car, you could make it perform better then the z28 (they are the same base car after all), but its going to become less "street" with every mod.

Hahahah, hahahahaha, hahah hah hhhah hah hah hah ah ha. Okay out of breath.

My Z06 (7.0L), 800lbs lighter than Z28, would have a hard time against a stock ZL1 at a dragstrip.

It is not reccomended to make multiple hard launches on the Z28, the rearend wasn't designed for it.
