What is the "28" in Z/28?

I understand why the G35 and 350Z are called what they are. Any why a 330 is a 330. But where did the 28 come from in the Z28?

BTW, the car in my avatar is believed to be Z/28 numero uno. That Porsche 911 seems to be having a hard time keeping up with it.
Alot of them did back in the day... especially once the 350 was put in it in 1970.

Very close, Z27 is SS RPO, Rally Sport is Z22. That's why I alway start RS/SS since the RS came before SS RPO wise.
