Anyone offer a built 378 short block?

Everyone I've checked, online only, I haven't made any calls, seems to offer all their stuff in bigger cubes. I wanted to get more info on an ERL built 378 or a mast 378. I think the best route for me is to get something already done, if possible. The cost to tear the other one completely apart, clean, machine, balance, reinstall the RA will be more than a new short block.

Wonder if it would be a good idea to go with a LSX 376-B15.
Take your valvetrain off yours, put it in the LSX.And go.......

Who offers that?

I thought those lsx short blocks didn't have the best RA's?
The compression is low on the b15 and I don't want those heads.

Teds engine builder thinks that the cylinders are moving around with all the HP and wants a thicker sleeve. I guess the ls3 sleeve is paper thin.

For the $. GM crate 376-B8 or the 376-B15 complete with heads are hard to beat.
Check the GM catalog.B8 would be the same heads, the B15 are 6 bolt.
Correct me if I' wrong.At the camground,drinking for a good 24 hours.

Keep your L99 ship to ERL for a spare.

Jamie,

Just keep in mind most ready to go short blocks are built for the masses and still may fall short of what you need . I know you can tell them what pistons, rods and so on but really you should just have a PRO builder do an engine for your HP goals and application.

Uhm.. I've done LS3's and LS2's well into the 1k + rwhp range... The sleeves are identical except for the LS2 being a smaller base bore at 4.000... I have run plenty of LS2/LS3 blocks in the past with no problem. I'll be pushing 23+ psi out of my current one. Nice part is when you lose a rod its only a $1200 block.

Then again it is pretty sweet having the 6-bolt holes and the aftermarket blocks..

I think what I have now, minus the hiccup, would be fine. I don't think stronger rods or pistons or bearings or whatever would've been able to survive whatever happened.

Whether or not the cylinders are walking wont be know until Ted looks at it. So getting a block with thicker sleeves may not be needed but why not just do it and have that covered.

My thoughts are that if you add up all the labor in breaking down this short block, maching, checking, balancing, reassembly of the short block, plus all that time, and the fact itll still have thin sleeves, may as well pony up a bit and get something to handle 1000 HP. Damn that's a run on sentence!

No? I don't know. I'm just trying to learn as much as possible to help me decide what to do.

Hey Jamie, get in touch with TSP for a built LSX, or get the LSX376 directly from GM. Either option will be less money and hold lots of power. Not to me took they are going to be easier to get your hands on.

Still don't know. They haven't taken the car apart yet. Prob won't be until at least the middle of this week if not longer.

That's why I'm looking into buying an already built short block. With the way the machine shop is it'll be next spring before I get the car.

Once the block leaves teds were screwed. Not only will it halt any progress but the the car will just be occupying the lift. Not good.

I'm taking with Jason now. The lsx doesn't look to have the best components in it. And I don't want 9:1.1
