Engine Break in

Does chevy break in the motors before they are sent out for delivery or will I just have to do it myself?

You will want to break it in for at least 500 miles. They do run them but not enough to be properly broke in. Besides alot more than just engine to breakin. Drive train also.

I'm pretty sure I've read on here that the engines get broke-in after they are built. So I don't think it would be necessary for you to have to do it like it used to be.

yea i figured it would be something like that, wouldnt want to get a poor ring seating and possibly kill my engine life.

Guess we'll just have to check the driver's manual when we get our cars...

they say 5000 miles gives the engine more than enoug time to get rings and everything else worn to fit the engine as it should.

5,000 seems a little excessive IMO

Yet they put Mobil 1 in to start correct? That could be the 5000 mile reasoning. Personally, I would never put synthetic in while breaking in a motor; counterproductive to what you're trying to accomplish...

Then why do you think Chevy does it? (not trying to be a jerk or nothing, just curious why the manufacturer would do it if a different type of oil would be better for engine break-in)

If GM tells me to put Mobil 1 in it, i will, and thats all that has ever been in my vette and all that will ever be in it...the people at GM arent stupid, they have a reason for putting it in there and advising that people put it in there.
