Am I the only one who is disappointed?
Just curious, am I the only one who feels disppointed now that the weight is revealed? The damn thing weighs almost a half ton more than a Z06! and 300 lbs more than a GT500.

Nope.
It has more than enough performance to counter said weight "issue". |

It is 100 pounds less than a CTS-V and ran the same ring 22 seconds faster. NO, I am not disappointed at all. This is a Bad Ass car, period.

I'm waiting on the bottom line number. I'll know whether I'll be satisfied by then. Although the car is heavy, it really isn't much of a detriment to me, as there are a couple of high powered performance cars out there that have heavy curb weights......although yes, I was hoping for a lighter number.

Nothing more needs be said... but I don't always do what is expedient, so I will elaborate. This is the best balance between weight savings and performance for the maximum number of people. If you want to pull off a few coolers and install a less competent differential, and spend another handful of thousands of dollars on say a carbon fiber driveshaft and other things, I'm betting you can get it down to under 4k pounds. I'm intentionally being silly here to prove the point which I hope is obvious. It's a balancing game. I believe the 'ring time alone proves that this game shows ZL1 to be a WINNER. (although I may just add a CF Driveshaft)

Just another naysayer....
Why worry about the weight when it is pretty apparent that the performance levels are there? Like its been said 100 times if you want to spend the $4 to lighten it up then so be it. This car still performs with cars that cost 30 to 60 grand more and with a few mods can probably out perform them even with the weight |

I'm not disappointed. This car is for my wife. Now, if she decides to run the car and tells me that she wants to go faster, then I will make it so. I can only hope.

I'm all for a lighter car and all, but I look at safety issues as well. I dunno about
some of the other performance cars out there and how they would handle a really bad collison. But the ZL1 will protect me and my love ones and that's another important point to consider. This car will have more then enough "G" force for most enthusists out there. If you need to reduce the wieght yank the back seats and get a smaller gas tank etc. But just pure stock its a sweet car imo.

Why do you care about weight?
really? Does your garage have a weight limit? Does your house live down a street with a bridge with a 4000 lb weight limit? If so, you may want to check out a car like an S2000 or a Mazda Miata. They are both very light cars

2010 Camaro SS modified extensively. I stretched the body to make it a 4 door, but I swapped in the 3.6L DI V6 for fuel economy. Then I picked up a corvette body around the V8. I also swapped the body for a C2 Z28. (In short I traded it for three cars, a Corvette Z06r, a C2 Camaro Z28, and a Cadillac CTS Summer Performance package 3.6L DI with Aisin 6spd.)

Then don't buy one. Save an allocation for those of us that love everything about this beast.

I think right now, there are a lot of people perfectly happy to keep their heads in the sand.
They are comparing the ZL1's "NEW" 'Ring numbers with all of the "OLD" numbers from a few years ago, but when everything plays out, there are going to be a lot of Red Faces around here. There are going to be a LOT of people who are going to find out just how much WEIGHT plays into everything. PEOPLE, there is a REASON the ZL1 has 80 MORE HP than a Zo6 Corvette, but yet, runs the 'Ring TWENTY SECONDS SLOWER! |
