I honestly cannot remember, but it did test the highest. I believe the K&N had the highest level of filtration (smallest particulate matter trapped)

Amsoil + K&N filter works well for me. I may try the Amsoil filter too next time. The K&N is just so easy to remove with the nut welded to the end...lol!

Excuse me but is JGR Driven LS30 Amsoil? I was not aware of the Mobil oil deal that was discussed in the above thread and I just changed mine to it.It was the first oil change so now I am thinking of changing it again to amsoil if it is a better oil.

I know it's not an LS engine but I have a LandCruiser that has run over 350,000 miles using Amsoil and Amsoil filters. The oil/filter have been changed at 25K intervals or one year whichever occurred first. Ea15K50 is the Amsoil filter number for the LSA engine. Amsoil recommends changing this filter at 15K mile intervals. Use the 5W-30 Signature series oil. I ran the same oil in my '04 GTO with an LS1 engine (same lifters) for over 90,000 miles before I sold it. The change interval was 25K or one year also.

Thx for the info., getting ready to change my oil for the first time. Bought some race ramps. What brand/style of tool are you using to remove the oil filter with? Also are you using a torque wrench to tighten up the oil bolt and if so what setting are you using? I'll probably purchase a wireless electric device to remove all those bolts for the under belly removal. I found in the DIY section some good advice on how to remove the oil filter without a lot of mess and hassle. Which is to lightly poke a whole to the bottom of the filter so that the oil can drain out first, before removing the filter. Any of the chain auto part stores carry a decent magnet oil plug or any vendors on this forum sell them?

I have not used Joe Gibbs Racing Oils, but have heard a lot of great things about them. I have also heard a lot of great things about RedLine oil.

Once again opinions are like arse holes! As long as you use a premium dexos approved oil and change the oil and filter every 4000 miles / 6000 km's or twice a year for low mileage drivers you will NEVER have a lubrication related problem with your motor! Amsoil, Pennzoil Platinum, Mobil 1, Quaker State all offer a synthetic oil that will meet the requirements. Amsoil claims a pretty long interval but who the hell would push the oil that far! The key here is to change the oil and filter at regular intervals. Ya spend quite a bit on these cars. Over maintaining and keeping the oil physicals strong can only benefit not hurt!

I know it's a different car BUT I use Amsoil Dominator 10w30.
Change oil every 5K miles. Car is street driven roughly 700 miles a month. just over 700 RWHP. |

One more thing to mention is the built in oil monitoring system in our cars.
It has been explained in detail elsewhere that it is much more than mileage that it measures by when it's telling you just how much 'oil life' is left. From the reports and descriptions I've read, it's pretty accurate. Now normally you could just plan your oil change intervals based on the OLMS readout and change it when you have perhaps 20 percent life left. I change mine when the oil life drops below 50 percent. My question is, if GM normally specs Mobil 1 (or other Dexros oil) for the ZL1, does changing to another longer life oil such as amsoil, affect the accuracy of GM's oil life monitoring system.?? |

@JDP - I want to hear more about this CTS-V that ate a cam. I know high-zinc oil was recommended for older motors with flat tappet cams, but I didnt think it was as necessary with roller cams. That has always been one main difference in Amsoil, in that they dont use high-zinc formulas (except their race specific oil i believe). Thoughts?
