So I did the upper valvetrain part today. Driver side valve cover not hard to remove after moving a few hoses and tubes out of the way. The first coil has to come off to gain access to one of the valve cover bolts. Pulled all the rockers and pushrods out.

BTW stock rocker preload is 1 3/4 turn to 1 7/8 turns. Figured I would check with the stock parts so I can verify the new pushrods will be correct length and give similar preload.

Lined up the crank and cam sprocket so I could check the rocker preload.

And for Stephen, here's a pic of the oil pump pick-up bolt. Why didn't they use the other bolt hole is beyond me.

Decided to check the PCV hoses while they were right there. Not a drop of oil in the PCV line or in the ports in the intake manifold valley cover. Again no catch can on my car and no oil in the intake.

Move on to the passenger side. Disconnect a few PCV lines and the fuel line to get them out of the way and one big harness is able to move down and out of the way. The coil on the far left has to come off just like the drivers side.

The dip stick tube was keeping the valve cover from coming out. So removed one more coil on far right of valve cover and then it came right out.

And all the rockers and pushrods out and spark plugs out. Stopped there tonight and ready to swap valve springs when they get here later this week.

If your trying to make a case for not needing an oil catch can, your looking for oil in the wrong places. The supercharger will suck the vaporized oil past the intake opening. You will find oil in the Supercharger plenum as well as in the form of carbon on the tops of your pistons.

Also, the best way to check proper pushrod length is with the new cam installed.

Good luck with your build, it seems to be moving along just fine.

In engines I've disassembled that have been passing oil thru the PCV there is usually a black trail inside the intake coming from the PCV port. Mine is dry inside. And checked the stock rocker preload for reference so I can compare when I check again with the new cam in of course.

If you want to see if oil in the blower, you need to pull the hat. My intercooler brick was soaked in oil after less than 1k miles after cam swap. Just my personal experience. Everything else was clean at a glance (TB, snout). I was also running about 15lbs of boost.

When I did the cam on my 2010 2SS, I didn't completely drop the pan. I just lowered it an inch. Enough to get a finger in.
