New Tire Opinions

So after 9k miles and 1 track day the stock GY tires are ready to be replaced. I have been reading up on all the threads I can find in here to see what most people are going with and the general consensus is MP Super Sports. I'll have to go with a 285/35zr20 and 315/35zr20 which is going to run around $1600. The GY's are about $400 or so less, but after doing a track day in April (50 degrees in the afternoon, colder in the morning) it took 3 to 4 laps for the tires to warm up and feel like they were actually gripping. There were a couple Mustangs running the g-force Rival and they were turning some quick lap times, but Tirerack doesn't have any ratings on them yet. The tread rating is 200 which is less than the GY and MPSS so I would go through them quicker.

What are some of your opinions for those of you who drive the car on the street (not a daily, but I like to drive it) and then do the occasional track day (2 a year or so). I don't want to have to replace the tires every year either so something that may last a couple years too.

Thanks in advance.

You just can't go wrong with Michelin Pilot Supersports. As for the price, do a little research and you can get the price way down.

I use Tire Buyer.com.
Link through be frugal.com to get free shipping and a 6% rebate
Use retail me not coupon to save another $50 to $75
Finally, Michelin has a $70 rebate going right now.

My guess is you will net that price down below $1,300.

Pilot AS3... Love them. I have on a second set of rims and I not sure I want to put the Supercars back on, but I will when it gets really hot. AS3 grip awesome, half the noise, really soft ride, and if you get caught in the rain, so what they work well in that too. Also the best feature, they arent throwing crap at the side of the car the whole time.. I have a square set up 285/20's all the way around..

Update for Tirebuyer

$1,550 per set + $100 tax
Link through befrugal.com for 6% cashback = ~$100
Retailmenot coupon code 70V-RETAILMENOT-D97CACA899D8BB = $70
Michelin Rebate = $70

So net net is around $1,400

Thanks CVP33, I'll have to look into all the discounts you posted.

I'll have to check into the AS3's. Haven't heard of them until now.

I suggest you look at the Hankook RS3.....better than the pilots...and OEM sizes.

@ Lethal Z - Can you elaborate on "better"?

Super sticky compound. Great reviews and I have had a number of friends who love em and have gone through dozens of tire variations.

Check em out. Look at the comparison to the OEM GYs.

Sounds like a great tire, and one I might consider when I burn through the Supercars. Still love the AS3 as everyday use because of min body blast, and the square setup allows rotating. With a 500 utqg, that's 2 1/2 times the treadwear of the RS3, but you still need to afford two sets of rims to make this happen, and that's not for everyone...

If you consider the Hankook's make sure to get the Version 2. they are supposed to better in rain than the Version 1

Any experience in how many miles the Hankook's last? With a 200 tread rating (GY's are 220) I would think you go through them quicker.

Wonder how lateral support compares on these as not a XL tire.
