No Code LT's w/out tune!?
I could of sworn I read somewhere that there were certain sets of LT's that do not throw codes therefore wouldn't require tune.
I am wanting to put my LT's on now and hold off on tuning until my cam swap..In the mean time, I am wanting to keep the PT Warranty intact until the swap. I know i have read it, and I did do a search but came up with nothing.. Anyone!? |

Also: I know I will get more out of a tune, but I want the sound and extra little hp now, and not pay for multiple tunes....

Not sure how it is where you live, but here in Houston most if not all shops offer lifetime tune, first session may be like $450, but then after that its free! I know first hand from my dad's C5 with Lt's intake etc etc

Most offer tweaks to the original, for instance: I have CAI/Scoop/Xpipe add LT's they'd tune...and if anything needs to be tweaked, they would do so..but if I had a CAM EVERYTHING would need to be re-done therefore they wouldn't just give me a new tune it would cost more $$
Make sense? |

I would just wait, or if you wwanted them done go ahead and do the LT's. i got bored and gutted my stock cats the other day. It's throwin a code. doesn't bother me, gonna tune when i get my actual long tubes and other parts anyway bud.

Either immediately or eventually you will get a CEL with long tube headers. My advice is always to wait on headers until you are ready for a tune and wait for the tune until you are ready to walk away from the warranty.

It actually depends. One of the well known shops I went to for a tune quote said $550 for a tune and $300 for a retune or something like that. I ended up going to Auto Adrenaline Performance for my tune. $350 with free retunes, until I get a major mod (cam, etc).

It just depends on how long its going to be until you get your cam setup. If its going to be soon, I'd hold off on the tune. But if you're not getting the cam setup for a while, I'd go ahead and get your car tuned.
Some cars with intake and long tubes definitely need a tune. It usually depends on the intake being used. If you're running a ported TB and an intake + long tubes, I'd definitely get a tune. |

I had JBA long tube headers put on and it never threw a code. I had them without for several months as a DD and AutoX on weekends kept waiting to see one pop up. I now have a tune back on the car for my AFM

You might get lucky and the car not throw a CEL. I put some ARH with basically off-roads (they were HF cats that were gutted) and he still hasn't seen a CEL. That's been a good month or so. He is doing the same....not getting a tune until he gets the cam.
The CEL is just a small engine light on the dash. It's not nearly as noticable as the CEL I had back when I had my Implala. That thing was big and annoying. You might be ok with the CEL especially if you plan to do the tune not too long from now.

I got a CEL within a few miles and even clearing a few times they came right back until tuned.

I had to drive around with my Stainless Works LT's on for about a week before I got my tune (the tuner had to reschedule, so that's why there was a wait) but I had no code thrown and it was fine. I didn't beat on it or anything because obviously that would not be a good idea. Good luck!

Its usually not the header (which are the front 02 sensors), but the cat or off road pipe (rear 02's) that throw the code. I've seen lots of posts of folks using these on the cat or off road pipe and claim they never throw a code. http://www.ebay.com/itm/O2-Oxygen-se..._Parts&vxp=mtr
