Defenderworx Camaro Lettering
I ordered black lettering to replace my chrome Camaro lettering on the sides of the car. I ordered from chevymall.com. Camarocollection.com also carries the same product. They state that it is to replace the OEM chrome lettering and that it is GM certified. It comes from the company called DefenderWorx.
When I received the package yesterday, I was anything but happy. The package looks like someone put it together in their garage and the lettering isn't even the same size as on the car. It's smaller and the O's are totally different. So if you were thinking of purchasing these, DON'T DO IT! You will be an extremely unhappy customer. I could look past the packaging if the letters actually matched the ones on the car. For an item costing over $100, I expect it to match. I will be calling the chevymall.com customer service on Monday to get my refund. Last edited by CamaroAmy; 07-09-2011 at 07:37 AM. |

Hmm I've always had good experiences with Defenderworks products. Have you tried contacting them to see about why the "O"s are different?

It did make me think twice about ordering stuff from that company and having some kind of the same issues. I was going to order the black reverse light covers and now I am scared that they will not fit. |

That doesn't sound good. I don't blame you for not being happy. We sell their stuff a lot and what is supposed to fit does fit. I haven't seen the lettering you're referring to though. Any photos?

I replaced my OEM "CAMARO" lettering with the ones from DefenderWorx.
I agree they are NOT a direct replacement for the OEM lettering. They're too thick and the font size is different. They're not "bad" just way different than the original lettering on the side of the front fenders. I had to recalculate the spacing between letters and the offset from the rear of the fender and the accent line in the fender to get them to look "ok". The double sided tape that DefenderWorx put on the back of their letters looks like a person did it by hand and on my letters not all of the double sided tape was the same color. Here are a couple of pictures showing how I spaced the DefenderWorx letters and how thick they are. It also looks like I might need to realign the "O" a bit after looking in this picture.

I ordered the laser cut stainless letters from emblempro's and sanded them a bit and am painting those. They're not as thick, because it's stainless, but will be fine, I think... they're very close to the OE size, and they are the right shape. |

Thanks for posting these up...I was contemplating my purchase of these as well and now my mind has been made up not to do so. And yes, your "O" is definitely crooked.

I am sorry you are not happy with the product. I work with Defenderworx as a consultant and there are reasons as to why the letters are different fonts. Since DW has GM Licensing, all of their products need to be approved by GM before they can ship. The original prototypes were identical to the Chrome Letters. GM had them change the font before the licensing was approved. I know they were working on some new ways to install this particular item. Here is what I did when I installed this item: I first took masking tape and set it along the top and bottom edge of the factory letters. I then placed masking tape between the letters. This gave me a complete box to fit the new letters into. I then took fishing line and removed the factory logos. After clearing the tape and all residue, I then applied my new letters and they fit great. Here is a picture of them on the car. If you can't see the image here, it is on the Defenderworx Facebook Wall. I am very sorry to hear about your problem and as another poster mentioned, please call Defenderworx and they can help with any uncertainties. The product is made of Aircraft Grade T6061 Aluminum and the material is superior to any other on the market. The factory letters are plastic. Thanks and very sorry to hear about your issue. This is their most difficult product to install. Have a great day!!! |

If a piece is not licensed it cannot be sold, period. Even if you change the font. You imply that by altering a GM logo anyone can sell it,
For instance, I cannot take a Mustang letter font and sell Camaro spelled with it. If we are not licensed to do so. It is not the font alone, it is also the word that gets licensed. |

You are correct. The Defenderworx piece is 100% licensed by GM. They guided the development of the font that is used currently in their line. I am not implying that you can change the logo and sell it. I am stating that GM instructed Defenderworx to use the letters as you see them. Not trying to mislead anyone or state that by changing anything you can get away with it. All Defenderworx Camaro items are licensed by GM and have gone through all of the necessary approval processes. Sorry if my statement was misleading.

I returned the item. The misleading thing is they say it replaces the lettering. They did not state that it was off in size. I told them when I called that they are going to have a lot of unhappy people if they don't change their wording on the site. Buying a new pair of lettering and painting them is going to be a lot cheaper then paying 100+ for these ones. Glad I could help some other people out!

I love the way mine look on my car. Some strips of painters tape and a make-shift spacer to get the spacing the way you want and install is gravy. Got a reduced price off ebay. I like the new "font" size and the thickness is fine with me.
BUT, the tape they supplied on the letters was pure junk. I've mentioned this in another post, that I spent an hour and a half putting proper 3M tape on the back with patience and a razor blade. Great material and finish, just no follow through. Last edited by redjerry; 02-25-2014 at 04:57 PM. |
