They always say, "too close to the sidewall."

My wife's jeep had a big nail in her tire, firestone said it was too close to the side it. It wasn't. So I drove up the street to a smaller tire shop and they plugged/patched and balanced the tire for $25. No issues since and you would have no idea it happened.

Thanks guys. Safety is prime for myself and for others.
The tire pressure is still holding this morning. Had to run early, and had no chance of taking it into the shop early to see if it went all the way through or not, and/or get it fixed. Tempted to take that nail out myself, but holding off and just going to let the shop do that. Not going to drive it again until I address the issue so I'm driving the F150. A bit painful because Friday's are always Camaro days... lol. Will take it in after work mid afternoon. Will keep you guys posted. |

Exactly! Then you end up buying two new tires because the other one is too worn! But I always end up listen to them because I'm so damn cautious about tires.
The biggest thing about riding around on a tire like that with a Camaro is the lack of a spare tire. I don't like the inflator thing - as soon as spring hits I'm getting a spare.

You could always do a quick DYI check. Spray bottle with water/soap... spray on nail... does it bubble? Most tire places have a dunk tank where they submerge your tire/wheel into the water and look for bubbles. If it doesn't bubble you could always go up a few psi and check again. Saves you from going to a shop risking damage for a nail that never penetrated...poor little fellow

Yeah just spray it with some soapy water and see if it's leaking. If not just pull it out and see how long it is. If it was in no deeper than tread I wouldn't worry about it.

K, so still no tire pressure loss this afternoon. Holding steady at 39.5psi
(cold). Pulled it out. Tested any leakage with soap/water as advised... none detected! Got lucky this time....... until I find it losing pressure in a few hours or tomorrow morning... we'll see. Here's the culprit ladies and gentlemen. |
