1/4 mile

has any one tried starting out in second gear in the 1/4 mile. with first gear being so low and hard to get a good 60, time. this would be in the automatic trans zl1. I have mickey Thompson 305/45/18 inch street drag radials. I get 1.8s and the odd 1.7s in the 60 foot.

How many lbs are you running in your tires at the track?

I have the same tires and an auto and pull 1.50-1.54 60's. I run my DRs at between 17-18 lbs. I do have a Yank 2600 stall torque convertor though. Plus other "stuff".

Those are really good 60 numbers for 18's. Are you able to replicate 1.50-1.54s every run?
Sounds like those converters really work. Did you need to add extra transmission cooling for it? Who was able to tune it? I hear that is a big problem when doing a converter on a ZL1

Does the convertor lock up and drive nice on the highway.

I'm pretty consistent lately. Last thurs out of 7 passes 5 had 60's in the 1.5s The converter works well. Matt from FSP really knows his stuff and has tweaked my tune a bunch to get it spot on. Of course I keep adding new things so I try to keep him busy. Another well respected tuner approached him at the track Thurs night as he was having issues with a CTS/V's trans tune. Matt tweaked it for him and they right away ran 2/10s quicker! I have not added an extra cooler and so far no issues. We did go with the triple disc Yank converter.

i am running 16lbs to 18lbs in the tires. sounds like it is hard to find a tuner that knows how to tune the trans in the zl1.

Car drives great on the highway. I'm driving From Venice FL to Toronto Ontario at the beginning of July. Idling along at around 55 it can lock and unlock a bit but nothing major. They do need some tuning by someone that knows what they are doing.

I'm not sure if Matt does remote tunes or not. I'll ask him when we go to the track on Sun.

Do you leave off idle or do you stall it up a bit? If so, how much?

Depending on the track prep, but usually around 2,000 rpm.

60 ft is influenced by a complex stew..

- Track Prep
- How your chassis works
- How much power you make

Where do you race, post a whole slip too.
