Exclamation Help on Supercharger Upgrade and Headers

Hey all, I am considering making my first performance mods to my car and had some questions. First of all, my father and I usually do all the work to our cars inside and out, so for the ZL1 we wanted to start a little slow.
I was thinking about purchasing the 700+ HP package from Lingenfelter but we thought it would be safe to start off with the 630 or 650 HP Package they offer.

My question is which would you guys recommend for a first mod, knowing I will upgrade again later if everything works out.

Also, do you guys have any recommendations on which set of headers I should purchase? How are the gains on the set you installed?

Thanks everyone!

my .02 is source all you parts, put them on, then have it tuned.

I think I am going to roll kooks headers, CAI, injectors, pullies as required to achive say 12psi.

then I will have to deal with cooling a bit. more capacity and heatexhanger most likely.

I need to research the kooks vs american racing on the install aspect a bit. I am basing my like for kooks on the ball and socket connection just becaue I never have issues with them.

most lingenfelter packages dont' have headers, hennessy seems a bit pricy,

I would look at some of the other forum vendors like Kd inovations, Redline motorsports, ADM as well.

I just feel like headers (I want more exhaust note and power at the same time), CAI, little exta boost is a good place to start.

there are TB, ported snout, ported blower options out there as well.

I live my SLP long tube headers. Made in USA with USA steel. Cut, bent, welded, coated and polished all in shop in NJ.

Then add pulleys, injectors, hi flo cats and conservative tune and you have 650HP, great sound and complete reliability.

You can do all of that yourself although good tuners make it a lot easier and worth what you pay them.

All in my most humble opinion of course. Mods are very personal.

Check out my build thread.
http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=234327

I can definitely relate to you and your dad wanting to do what you can yourselves. My son and I have a few projects going. Based on what I learned, If I were to break mods into 2 groups it would be as follows:

Phase 1: (approx 100HP gain)
Better heat exchanger
Cold Air Intake
90mm throttle body
Lower pulley
Fuel Injectors
Thermostat
Spark Plugs
Tune

Phase 2: (about another 100HP over phase 1)
Head porting
Supercharger porting
cam
headers
102mm throttle body
smaller upper pulley
Tune

Breaking it up in this way separates what requires digging into the engine more for phase 2. I was going to start small with a phased approach but once I turned the corner to porting my supercharger it just made sense to do it all at once so I missed Camaro 5 this year going slightly overboard my ZL1!

No regrets though. I'll have dyno numbers up soon...

I think if you're conservative on your boost with pulley changes you can get by with stock injectors but they aren't difficult to change.

+1 to 1st Gen's recommendations - fyi - you dont need headers if you are only doing a pulley swap. Focus on cooling - either improved h/x or the super chiller.

Injectors aren't needed really with stage 1 from the inquiries I've made.

You can tune more injector pulse in to handle it for a while. I have. The downfall is its kinda hard on the injectors but if you plan onchanging them in the next phase anyway like I do, then they will last that long.

The extra grand for injectors when they were sort of a luxury part on the stage 1 kind of made that decision for me. I'll wait and budget them into phase two, because a cam change and more pulley will definately require larger injectors and possibly even a fuel pump upgrade.

Probably going to dyno mine in the near future as well, just got the tune finished through Jannetty after installing;

ADM cold air
LPE intercooler reservoir
160 degree pulley
long tube headers, no cats.
2.55" upper pulley
tr6 plugs
90mm LS7 throttle body
