Odd TR6060 problem..

Ok.. here's the scoop.

TR6060 six speed in 2010 SS
Magnacharger blower
Centerforce dual friction clutch (new)
Had the trans out for the cluch so we dropped in a Hurst Shifter.

All was fine for hundreds of miles. I drove the car today to a cruise spot and on the way home i felt a new vibration.

Got home and the trans was making a terrible noise through the shifter (from shifter or just transmitting through shifter I don't know)

It's a thumping noise that speeds up and slows down based on RPM and it does it both in and out of gear.

I did do one small rolling burn out after the event.. but that's it. Here's some video I made so you can hear the noise. I've never dealt with the remote shifter stuff before so I'm looking for ideas. The car drives fine and seems to shift fine but that noise sounds like either something is loose or broken.

Ideas?

Video one:

Second video.. you can heard how hard it's thumping, especially at the end.

Two more videos:

That is a wired sound, I don't think it the trans or shifter more likely the new clutch

Intereting idea.. but it shifts fine and does this with the clutch out (disengaged).

About a 1,000 miles on this clutch with no issues.

In some of the other vids you can see how bad the shifter kicks about.

Did you check the dust boot and ring on the shift colum under the car, and the clearence between the shifter and driveshaft? It is a pretty close fit. I wonder is something is loose and rubbing.

Actually.. I can't remember if it does in in neutral.. and if it did it wouldn't be felt since the shifter is out of gear and free floating. No problem is apparent when idling at a stop.

However, the problem is there regarless of the clutch being in or out. It's almost like the car isn't fully in gear. But it drives fine and there's not external sounds of grinding or such.

Oh, and remember that part of the transmission is moving even in neutral since the driveshaft if still spinning the output shaft.

I agree with those before. Sounds like clutch is not centered or installed correctly, could be something as simple as the bearing

That really sounds bad.

Does it only do it when the car is moving? Might be one of the rubber joints between the drive shaft and the tranny.

The worst thing would be that there's a tooth broken on one of the gears, what you could do is drain the oil and see if there's some bits of metal in it.

I thought so too.. but then I was reminded that unlike the T56 transmission I typically deal with the shifter in this car is right above the driveshaft..

I found a spot to jack up the car and discovered the problem.

Below where the shifter goes through the floor there's a rubber boot. I guess it's a secondary seal since the shifter already has a rubber boot. Anyways, I remember this when we did the clutch and it just pulls over the bottom plate. At the time I though "how does that stay on?" well, I guess it doesn't lol

Maybe the car flexed and it popped off, for whatever reason it had fallen down and was on the where the DS mates to the tranny. There wasn't enough room for me to get it back on since the exhaust and such were in the way so I removed it completely. I will worry about putting it back on when I have the car on a rack again. Although I think I will secure it with a self tapping screw like the factory should have done.

So the DS was hitting the boot and trying to pull it around and that was yanking my shifter. Who would have thought, I mean it felt so violent I was sure it was internal to the trans. Damn new cars!

Did a test drive and all is fine and thanks to all the gave advice!

Here you go.. the boot can be seen here.

I don't why it popped off, especially since it's been on there for over a month of driving since the clutch and shifter deal. Like I said, I will secure it with a screw later on.

So the lesson from this to everyone, make sure this is on VERY secure when you do your trans work and shifter swaps. You can see how close it is to the driveshaft.
