I appreciate everything you and the other GM employees on the forum are doing to help us guys who are having problems. I had a customer service represenative contact me awhile ago, she scheduled a ride-along with a tech from one of the dealers I went to. Tech didn't notice any of the problems as "serious", and that my brake squeaking sound was from "water being boiled off of the rotors. Once all the waters gone it'll stop. I promise." That's verbatum by the way, that answer just didn't make any sense to me so I wrote it down. I'm happy to email you all of the notes I have from this whole process too at your request. Sorry, side note. Eventually my problems got escallated to the GM executive office department. They gave me a really nice package that gave me free maitance for a year, which I love and greatly appreciate. Downside to all that is that my rep there didn't help fix my problems, just told me to come back when they were more serious. In all honesty Pete, I don't want to cause trouble. I just want what is essentially a brand new SS not to have problems that my 98 wrangler would have. If I have to follow up on lemon law and get a lawyer then I will, I just don't want to things to come to that. Thanks again for all the help.
Ah, now I remember. Thanks for jogging my brain. There are some really good people at GM who are trying to make sure that every customer is as happy as possible. I am glad that they at least extended you a nice package. I will do some more checking and see if anything else can be done. Go ahead and send me your notes to my email and we will see what happens from there.

Pete

EDIT: Stieger, did you see this: http://camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=84386? I don't see anything in the TSB search, but you may want to PM the OP in that thread and see where the dealer got that info.

Pete thanks for the reeply, will shoot you that email once I'm home. I didn't see that thread but that's the first thing they did with mine. Told me it was a TSB and called for them to replace the front brake pads with new ones that had a lower metal concentration.

Yes, I'm on C5 at work. Don't judge

The C5 at work makes me laugh. I doubt you will find anyone around here judging on that. I will look for the email.

So don't have your email Pete, I gave you mine awhile ago. Posting the work log on here if that's ok. Just easier/quicker really. Also, I called the executive office today in hoping that they had some more news. They did not. They want another dealer technician to look at the car. AKA if I want the car looked at I need to drop it off for an unknown amount of time ..... again.

Thanks Stieger. I sent you a PM too, but you can disregard. I will see what I can do.

I figure it'd be polite to keep you all up to date with what's going on considering how much help you all have been.

Update:
Dropped Eleanor off at the dealers yesterday morning for a couple things:
1) the brakes squeaking/squealing

2) I am missing the trunk release handle thing, last time it was at the dealers they lost it/broke it/took it off (the one inside the trunk so if you ever get kidnapped and thrown in your own car you can get out)

3) for some reason the rearview mirror is coming loose all the time, not a big deal though
4) the lurching forward when going from P to D

5) and finally a weird squeaking noise from the drivers seat.

The service rep told me that because it was the weekend they only have 4 techs on duty so I may not be getting the car back by Monday. Which was fine. I called today because I remembered something I wanted them to look at, after some chit chat the tech tells me that I'll probably/hopefully be getting my car back sometime late this week (he said Thursday ish). Which was not fine, but I understand that they're busy and I want them to take their time so it was ok. My guesstamation of what'll happen ----> come thursday they'll tell me that they didn't hear the brakes squeak and the lurching forward is normal. Upside, we tightened your mirror and looked at the seat. I'll be sure to keep you all updated with whatever info I get.

Thanks for keeping us updated. I hope that the dealer surprises you and has better news than what you are thinking. Please do keep us posted.

Hi Everyone,

I've been wanting to keep the thread updated for a week now.

I had been having trouble with my speedometer sticking, and
was on the phone with GM as well as talking with the dealer.
I was told by all parties that the problem didn't exist until
it could be verified by someone other than myself.

It had stuck a total of three times, and on the fourth time, I was able
to bring it to the dealership, grab a service guy by the collar, and
simply point to the speedo which was stuck at 60mph.

Finally, they acknowledged the problem and agreed to fix it.

I scheduled this service as well as a PDIM software update, the HVAC
reprogram, and investigation into an air conditioning rattle.
All but the rattle was taken care of on a Saturday (reasonable time
considering all that was to be fixed, dropped off at 9am and picked up
at 3pm)

Though I am happy that they fixed my speedo problem, I'll be forever
weary of dealing with GM and intermittent (yet serious) problems
like a speedometer sticking.

As far as the rattle goes, I didn't give them a 100% complete description
of the problem, and they tried to identify the rattle by putting the fan
on 100%, when it is most prevalent at 50%. Oh well, I'll live with it until
I can bring it in and bring a service engineer for a quick spin.

Thanks to camaropete and others who have tried to help the process
along.

-Joe

Joe,

Thanks so much for posting the update. Sorry that it took all that it did to get the sticking speedo taken care of finally. Hopefully you will get many many years of enjoyment out of the car and all of this will be a distant memory.
