Major Problem. Where TR6060 and DS bolt up.
So the Transmission and the Drive shaft are connected through a rubber plate that has 6 bolts in it. (3 go to TR6060, 3 go to DS)
I started to hear a knocking sound under the center console while out of state. By the time I managed to get back home the noise had gotten much MUCH louder. I managed to slide up under the car a little bit and found that one of the bolts on the transmission side of that plate is completely missing and another one was damaged so bad I pulled it out with two fingers (nut was missing and slid out very easily) Sounded like the driveshaft was just slapping around under the car. Anyone had this problem before? (if so what caused it?!?) I'm thinking that either something has gone wrong with the Tranny Mounts or the Carrier Bearing. (The transmission was pulled out of the car back in January by the dealership because of a snapped roll pin.. but that was 10months ago) I'm gonna try to get it to a lift in the afternoon but would like to know if anyone has any suggestions of what might be the problem here (things to check while on lift) and if anyone knows the Part Number to the Carrier Bearing so I can start tracking one down just in case mine is damaged. And if there is any good way of checking to make sure my DS hasn't gottened tweaked in this mess. |

Did they use new bolts when the trans was pulled? Doubt it. They're one time use bolts. Once they're stretched, there is no tension there holding them in place. The locknuts are also not effective once they've been used. Get new bolts/nuts and you'll be fine

Dealership doesn't think that the carrier is damaged and they said that GM does not classify those bolts as one time use. They gave me the plate and 3 bolts so I can swap it over.. Gonna check my Tranny mounts and make sure everything is tight.

The driveshaft bolts are TTY grade 12.9 metric bolts. That's as one-time use as you can get.

These bolts will work fine more than once, you do need to tighten them though.

Ya I'm trying to find the torque specs. (though if anyone already has them feel free to share lol)
And I was just repeating what the dealership told me. I do actually know quite a bit about turning wrenches. Just every car design is different and they all have unique problems.. I haven't dealt much with this design so I was just gathering some opinions. (I have a motto thingy.. "you don't have to know what your doing, you just gotta be able to figure it out." ..these forums are an easy way to figure things out lol) |

Mine started to come a part too, right from the factory but I caught it. Put the DSS driveshaft in and forget about it, problem solved. They will come a part again, just a matter of time and miles.

His tranny was out before for service and the dealership thinks they can reuse the bolts/nuts. Now we know yet another reason the fasteners failed. That being said, they were marginal before any mods in the first place. I would carefully replace the fasteners with new parts, torqued to spec, and see if it will hold up one more time. If not, then throw it in the trash and get a DSS aluminum driveshaft so you can move on to the next weak link. -Mark. |
